Who is not Afraid
of Math?
Final Math
Report from Petru Dumitru and students at "Duiliu Zamfirescu" School, Focsani
|
This is third year when our school is
working on "Connecting Math" Project. As usual we enthusiastically received
our mates from Barcelona, Spain proposal to work in partnership.
Last year in October we chose some
of the activities that the coordinators suggested, but we proposed others
too such as "From Math to Music", "Fractals Challenge" and "Tangram Spring".
We firstly focussed upon the class
organization and on the activity of statistics creation. This work had
the same subject with the one from last year related to the personalities
from the front page of the newspapers. The main conclusion of these activities
was that the women are in minority, especially in policy and economy. We
think this is not their option, but the society does not offer the women
and men equal opportunities. We cannot anticipate what the situation will
be when we become adults. In our class the girls are in top because they
have the best results at school and in school competition too. For example,
recently 5 girls and just 2 boys won main prices in the regional Math competition.
One of the favorite activity was
"Just for Fun", an opportunity to share problems, funny exercises and Math
curiosities with all participants from every corner of the world.
Another activity we proposed was
"Math, Music and Arts". Maria Dumitru' works were finalized by two reports:
"From Math to Music" and "Tangram Spring".
"Fractals Challenge" was a special
activity proposed by some of our colleagues who approached the subject
in Logo and justified the reasons that was a new way to see the world.
As every time before the project
"Connecting Math to Our Lives" represented an occasion to approach more
and more Math' side. We are convinced that now many of us love Math, because
we know its beauty and order.
