The Quail and Her
Chickens
A quail hatched her eggs in
an oat field. Finally she hatched some lovely chickens. Her life was fine
but she was afraid that the field's master could mow the field any time.
When she first left for food, she told her kids to listen well to what
the master would say if he came around.
In the evening when she
came back, the kids told her that they had bad news as the master of the
field came by and told his son that the oat got ripped and it had to be
mowed. So he asked his son to go and tell their friends and neighbors to
come to help him to mow the oat field the next day.
The old quail assured her
kids that the oat field would not be mowed the next day.
The next day, before leaving
the nest, she told her kids to listen carefully to what the master of the
field would say.
When she came back, the
kids reported her that the master and his son came in the field but no
one else came to help them so they decided to call their relatives to give
them a hand in order to mow the oat field the next day.
The quail assured her kids
that the oat field would not be mowed the next day.
The next day when she came
back to the nest, she found out that the master and his son waited for
help in vain. So the master decided to mow the oat field together with
his son.
When she heard the news
the quail decided that it is time to move her nest quickly.
Better late than never!
