K-9 Campers! Chelsea and Deb

Camp Gone to the Dogs, located in Vermont is open for Summer, Mid Summer and Fall Camp sessions. Their activities include seminars, obedience and fly ball to name just a few. This is their 11th year and they cater to every age, interest and breed. Stared in 1990, owner Honey Loring says:
"My love of dogs has brought me boundless joy and gratitude. If your idea of a good time is having fun with your dog, learning new things, letting your pet's natural abilities shine, and doing it all in a non-competitive atmosphere of dog-loving camaraderie, give them a call.

For those of you in Canada: Camp Ruffinit Promises a unique experience for people and their well-socialized canine companion to relax, play, and experience a variety of doggy related activities and adventures. Located 2½ hours east of Vancouver, British Columbia in the heart of the Fraser Canyon, just south of Lytton, BC. They're located on a crystal clear lake surrounded by thousands of acres of untouched wilderness. Sound good and in your travel range? Give them a call to set up your get-away!

I've recommended Pets Welcome as a great resource for finding pet friendly hotels and lodging. They also offer a database

Dog Scouts.com

This is one of the COOLEST things I've run across yet! In fact you have to go see this for yourself. They have tons of activities and a wonderful site. A quick description from the Dog Scout web page:
Dog Scouts of America is a non-profit organization for dog owners who want to become more involved with their dogs and their community and want to learn fun new things. The Dog Scout Motto is "Let us learn new things that we may become more helpful." Dog Scouts offers two 6-day (5 night) dog camps each year, where you and your dog can come for Agility, Flyball, Backpacking, Water Rescue, IMPROV Obedience, The Art of Shaping, Herding, Sledding, Frisbee, Search and Rescue, Freestyle, Carting, Tracking, Lure Coursing, and other dog sports and activities. The camp itself is situated in Michigan, in the Northern Lower Peninsula.

Great tips and hints for taking your K-9 pal with you on your next camping trip check out this site. They cover everything from Pre-Trip Preparations to Necessary Equipment. Lots of good practical information here. This site will make it easy for you to make a checklist and feel confident that you've done everything before leaving!

Is a Labrador the Right Breed for You?

You'll need to answer a series of questions to determine
which breed of dog is right for you.

Everyone in the family should be involved in the Question and Answer process.
Some of the questions should consider: Size of dog you want, size of your house and yard, how much time do you have to exercise the dog, where will the dog live, how much time do you have for grooming the dog each week, what your lifestyle is (busy? couch potato?) and what is your experience with dogs?

To get started I'd like to recommend a great
On-Line Breed Choosing Tool by Purina.

Just answer the series of questions they ask and they'll give you a full list of breeds to consider plus it gives you information on each breed on your list.

That information includes: Breed Background, General Information (like monthly food costs and living space needed for that breed), life expectancy, characteristics, and a lot more! This site also allows for side by side comparison of various breeds..in case you can't quite decide!

Well worth using and very educational!
