SHOW RULES

1. Any cavy entered for the Show may be withdrawn up until the stated entry closing date: otherwise the entry fee must still be paid for that cavy. No pedigreed entries will be accepted after the stated closing date.

2. Cavies must be entered in the owner’s name and must be pedigreed animals except for the Pet Section. Pedigree papers must be available for inspection on the day of the Show, with the exception of animals imported from overseas. If age is unsure, the animal is entered into the “senior” age group.

3. Pedigreed animals may not be entered in the Pet Section, nor pet cavies shown in the pedigreed classes.

4. Cavies are to be shown on show boards. The standard size of show boards for shorthair cavies is 12” X 12” wide and 1” high. Longhair cavies may be shown on larger boards, depending on hair length. Mother and babies may be shown in a basket if preferred. For the Pet Section, show boards are optional.

5. No Judge, partner of same stud, or the immediate family of that Judge, may show their own cavies at a Show at which they are judging. No animal purchased from a Trainee/ Judge shall be shown under that Trainee/ Judge for a period of three (3) months from the purchase date.

6. Owners or their representatives may steward their own cavies. All cavies nominated in the Junior Handler classes must be shown by a Junior Handler (< 16 years of age)

7. An entrant will be called twice to the Judging Table. If after two calls the entrant fails to come to the Table, the entrant will be disqualified.

8. There may be reasonable talking at the Judging Table at the discretion of the Judge and Stewards.

9. There is to be no smoking at the Judging Table.

10. A Judge may disqualify any cavy and/ or exhibitor for unseeingly bad behaviour at the Judging Table.

11. The Judge may disqualify any cavy they think is unfit for judging.

12. Side whiskers are a disqualification in all smooth hair varieties.

13. Any cavy with “fatty eye” will be disqualified from the Show. This disqualification applies only when the defect is visible without disturbing the eyelid.

14. Any sow that is obviously “in pig” cannot be shown.

15. Any cavy being exhibited with artificial colouring of coats will be disqualified from the Show. Shorthairs being exhibited with cutting or trimming of the coat will be disqualified from the Show; cutting or trimming of a longhair’s coat may be penalised at the Judges’ discretion.

16. Method of judging, whether using the points system/ otherwise is left to the discretion of the Judge.

17. The Judge’s decision is final. No discussion will be entered into at the Show Table, but a matter may be discussed with the Judge after the Show.

18. Any member wishing to lodge a complaint against another member or Committee member is required to lodge their complaint in writing to the Secretary. The matter will be dealt with by the Committee and the outcome of the decision will be binding.

19. Owners of cavies sold at a Show are requested to contribute 10% of the selling price to the North Queensland Cavy Club Inc.
