Furry O's Ferrets
Breeds the Best
From the Best!
Rescuing ferrets and finding good adoptive homes for them
will always be our primary objective. Our shelter will always
be open provided we have the physical and financial resources.
However, as we become more familiar with pet store ferrets,
and we see the common ailments develop in them like adrenal
cancer, insulinoma, and heart disease, we wonder why domestic
ferrets have to be put through so much stress so early in their
short lives. Why do they have to be separated from their
mother at less than a week and thus not allowing the mother's
own defense system through her milk to be strongly passed
on to her kits? Why do these defenseless animals have to
be neutered when they are less than two weeks old and only
the size of a walnut? Why are they rushed into pet stores
at 4 to 6 weeks old and dumped into cold aquariums filled
with wood chips and cheap cat food? Could it be that in
our plastic, "everything is throw away" society, that pet stores
are giving us exactly what we want. The "Throw Away Pet".
The "Replaceable Living, Breathing Creature" that God
created for our enjoyment as a companion animal is becoming
a part of our plastic world.

Some may ask; "Why do you breed ferrets if you still
have rescues to find homes for?". We have seen what
the pet stores have to offer. We have also seen what
a well bred domestic ferret is. The two are not the same.
Our mission as breeders is to breed the ferret as it was
meant to be. We carefully select breeding partners
that have the best temperament, conformation, and a
history of good health.

We lovingly handle each kit from birth and inspect their
progress each day. Babies are allowed to stay and nurse
from their mother until their own instincts tell them it
is time to stop. We do not neuter our kits until they
are completely developed and at their adult size. We offer
our kits for adoption to approved homes when they are
sixteen weeks old. All adoptive homes recieve a health
and temperament guarantee.

As breeders, we also seek to act responsibly and in the best
interests of the breeding ferrets health. When genetic flaws
or weaknesses are uncovered, the ferret and parents are
neutered to ensure that these traits are not passed on. Breeding
jills which do not produce adequate or any milk are also neutered.
In addition, no ferret is bred after the age of four years.
