Eszter Klein

Eszter was born in Budapest, Hungary on 2nd January 1876 as the only child of the marriage between Izsák Klein and Amalia Auerbach. Her mother died when she was quite young and her father remarried this time having 7 children with his second wife. During her early years, Eszter spent a lot of her time looking after her siblings.

Eszter married Jozsef Gänsler in a religious marriage in Vienna in 1893 and during this period - to the best of our knowledge was a housewife and gave birth to several children - Leo, Margit and Jozsefin and Lajos. It appears from the  records that the family was too poor to afford a civil marriage at that time and it was only later when the children faced being called up for compulsory military service in 1912 that she and Jozsef were married again at a civil service - this time in Budapest where the family had moved at some point between 1893 and 1912.

She died in Budapest on 28 February 1953 while having her gallstones removed and is buried in the Rŕkoskereszturi cemetery.

Very little is known about her background or how she spent her days, her interests, her views on life etc.
However from what little people have passed on, she was a very strong determined woman who was extremely family minded and religious.

There is a copy of a birth extract for Leo Garas her son which states that in 1939 she was living in 371 Ovoda Street in Budapest.

If there is anyone in the family who can provide any further information about her life then I would be most grateful.
