Carlos Siguion-Reyna
obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the Ateneo de Manila University and Master of Fine Arts in Film from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. In 1989, four years after earning his film degree, he bagged the Focus award given to films made by students of American colleges and universities for Patas Lang (Fair Exchange/Evenly Matched), a short film he shot in New York City as thesis requirement. He garnered his first best director award (Star from the Philippine Movie Press Club, the country's association of entertainment journalists) for his first full-length feature in 1988, Misis Mo, Misis Ko (Your Wife, My Wife). His other awards include those from both critics' groups, the Manunuri ng Pelikulang Pilipino and the Young Critics Circle, from the Film Academy of the Philippines which hands out the local version of the Oscars and from FAMAS, the country's oldest-existing film award-giving body--all for Ikaw Pa Lang ang Minahal (Only Love) which he filmed in 1992. His 1995 megger, Inagaw Mo ang Lahat sa Akin (Harvest Home), was the country's entry to the 68th Annual Academy Awards for the best foreign-language film category. He has screened a number of his films at the Toronto International Film Festival the latest of which is last year's Abot-Kamay ang Pangarap (Elena's Redemption). Also last year, his telemovie, Aangkinin Ko ang Bukas (Tomorrow Will Be Mine), clinched the best movie made for television award at the Singapore International Film Festival. He is presently a board member of the Directors' Guild of the Philippines.
