Joyce Bernal

film editor-turned-director Joyce Bernal's studies at the University of the Philippines was interrupted in 1990 when she apprenticed in movies directed by Ike Jarlego. Considered by critics' as among the newest directors proving their mark in the industry, she first tried her hand in editing via the film Sabado Nights produced by Viva Films in 1995. She has helped edit 30 films before she was given film editing credit in Viva Films' The Flor Contemplacion Story (Golden Pyramid for Grand Festival Prize and Best Actress Award for Nora Aunor, Cairo International Film Festival, 1995). Since then she has been editing for major production outfits such as Viva Films and Star Cinema Productions and the newly created Millennium Films. She made her directorial debut in I'm Sorry My Love (Viva, 1998). To date her directorial filmography includes Dahil May Isang Ikaw (Viva, 1999) and Hey Babe! (Star Cinema, 1999). Evident in her films are a breezy storytelling style, a canny editor's eye and a sense of tempo which she all puts to effective use as a director. She is currently working on her next release Tunay Na Tunay Gets Mo? Gets Ko! for Star Cinema.
