Laurenti Dyogi

is from the ranks of new directors who took the boob tube route to get into motion picture eventually. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines where a television workshop he attended induced his keen interest in the medium. Upon acquiring a broadcasting degree in 1987, he joined ABS-CBN and moved up the ladder from production assistant and researcher to associate producer/director and then executive producer/director. He had served in multiple shows of diverse programming. He is credited to have fathered two of ABS-CBN's acclaimed and toprating shows, the crime drama anthology Calvento Files and the youth series Gimik. In 1994, ABS-CBN sent him to Rockfort, Maine in the United States to undergo an intensive two-and-a-half training facilitated through the International Film and Video Workshop. When the ball began rolling for the film version of Calvento Files, studio executives found it to be perfect for his big screen debut.
