Perennial flower. Height varies greatly with species usually between 21/2 to 5 feet with taller plants needing stacking. Asters like full sun in a fertile and moist, but well-drained soil. They tend to do better in cooler climates. Best pH is 5.5-7.0. Propagate by division every 2-3 years. When dividing, discard old central part of plant and replant outer parts. Zones 4-8.

Annual flower. Height 3 feet. Grow these flowers in full sun in well-drained garden soil. Very hardy plant that grows best in cool weather. Propagate by seed in early spring or in fall in warmer climates.

Perennial herb. Height 30 inches. Grow in full sun to part shade in well-drained soil. Plant tends to be short-lived in southern climates so does better in partial shade there. Needs good air circulation to prevent powdery mildew and rust. Propagate by seed or division. Needs to be divided every 2-3 years as it grows rapidly. Dry flowers and leaves for tea and potpourri. Garden zones 4-9.

Perennial. Height 3 foot. This is a valuable cut flower that grows best with full sun in evenly moist well-drained soil. Soil should be rich in organic matter and of a pH of 5.5 to 7.0. May propagate by seed indoors 8-10 weeks before last frost. Established plants should be divided every 2-3 years. Zones 3-9.

Perennial flower. Height 12-18 inches. Plant in full sun to part shade. These flowers will thrive even in poor soil. Propagate by division and should be divided every two years. Garden zones 3-11.
Cyclamen

Cyclamen

Houseplant. Likes plenty of light and cool surroundings (55-64F). Water by placing in a bowl of water to avoid getting tubers wet, as these will easily rot. Propagation is from seed, but is very difficult and is not possible indoors. Plant is usually discarded after blooming.

Mostly perennials but some varieties are annuals. Height is generally 3-6 ft and will probably need staking. These flowers need full sun in a rich well-drained soil. Heavy feeders that need frequent applications of a liquid balanced fertilizer during the growing season. Propagation is by seed, cuttings or division. Plants will need dividing every couple years. Garden zones 3-9, but best in climates with cool, moist summers.

Perennial. Best in dappled shade with moist well-drained soil, but will tolerate dry soil and full sun. Propagate by seed or by division after flowering. Reaches heights of 3 feet. Garden zones 5-7.

Plants need full sun. Can tolerate heat, drought, poor soil, but need well-drained soil. Propagate by direct seed or division of plants in fall. Need to be divided every other year as these flowers grow quickly. Good in garden zones 4-9.
Gas Plant

Perennial flower. Likes full sun in moist, well-drained garden soil that is rich in organic material. Propagate by seed in spring indoors or outside in fall. These plants are difficult to transplant, so disturb roots as little as possible when planting. Gas plants take 3 years to reach blooming stage. Zones 2-8.
Cranesbill or Hardy Geranium

Cranesbill or Hardy Geranium.

Perennial. Height varies from 6 inches to 2 foot. Smaller varieties make good rapidly spreading ground covers in rocky places with little soil. A pH of 5.5 to 7.0 is ideal. Prefers full sun to partial shade, but generally does best where summers are cool. Propagate by easy division or seed in spring, but can be left undisturbed. Zones 4-8.
Globe Centaurea

Perennial. Height 3 foot. Grow in full sun in well-drained soil of average fertility. Will not survive winter in poorly drained soil. Cut back after flowering for a second bloom. This flower will attract butterflies. Propagate by division or seed. should be divided at least every 3-4 years. Garden Zones 3 to 8.
