Geometric Gymnastics

The classroom teachers love this especially around the fourth grade when they are working on geometry.

Give each of the children a sheet to work with or give it out to small groups of children. As the children are moving about doing their activities for the day they will write down in the blank space where they find the object, shape or angle. Ex.Under parallel lines they could write - The edges of the mat.

To keep children from moving in the room with sharp objects tape pencils hanging from a string on the walls around the room. You can also have a base station where you have a box of pencils the children can come up to and use when they find something. They can write it down, then leave the pencil and go back to their activity.
