Some Success Stories

It has been a while since we have had any correspondence and thought you would like to see some pictures of  "The Boy".   Bo is the baby of the family and has become a digger, chewer, counter  surfer  and all around puppy.  Coming up on a year old however he is pretty  well behaved.   He can sit, shake, stay, roll over, and go down.  His  stay is  his   weakest position but we are working on it with him.   Bo had the run of the house until starting pulling T.P. from the rolls  and we found it throughout the house and outside.  That meant the  Bathroom  door  had to be closed when we left. Then it was the bedroom door after we  found the deodorant and other items in the back yard.  Then came the  trash and  we  now put the trash can on top of the microwave before we leave the  house. Then he surfed the counters so we have to make sure anything  eatable is  put  away.   With all this we still are curious when we come home to see  what  MR.   Mischievous has done.   With this we need to let you know that we would not trade him for any  pet. He sleeps on Patty's lap or on the couch with her when she will  let him  (see  a picture).  He has his own chair and I included a picture of him  trying  to  go to sleep in it, but that is not where he sleeps most of the time.  You probably guessed it, he sleeps between me and Patty most nights.  At 11 months he walks the neighborhood without a leash which is great.   However, we are working on his selective hearing problem.    He has some friends in theneighborhood but there is a special bud.  His special bud is a chocolate lab named Bosco.  Bosco is 100 lbs and  Bo is   70+  and would get bigger if we allowed him to eat everything he wants.   Anyway these two play so hard and good together it is remarkable.  We   think that  Bo  would play with anyone that will play with him.   Anyway just wanted you to know how much we love our "BO" and thanks   for bringing him into our lives.

When we adopted Cheyenne, everyone thought that it was wonderful that we
"saved" a Dalmatian.  The truth is that Cheyenne saved us!

Earlier this summer we lost our 10 1/2 year old Dalmatian, Kelsa.  The loss
was very hard on our whole family,  and the void was such a big one that we
cannot even put into words.  While Kelsa was still alive, we had talked
about getting another Dalmatian and that the second time around we wanted to
adopt a rescued Dalmatian.  We never had that chance while Kelsa was still
alive.

Cheyenne came into our lives about a month after our loss.  There was so
much sadness in our home,  I cannot even begin to tell you what a joy it has
been  adding her to our family.  The first week we brought her home, I spent
every night holding her in my arms and bonding with her.  She needed the
reassurance of our love and that she wasn't going anywhere.  Needless to
say,  I bonded with Cheyenne in a big way.  She doesn't like to have Mom out
of her sight for long.

Each of my three children and husband have also bonded with her in their own
individual ways.  I heard my 5 year old son laughing to see Cheyenne running
back and forth across the back yard one day...no toys in her mouth and no
one playing with her.  Cheyenne was so unaware of anyone watching her as she
ran with her ears flapping and the biggest Dalmatian smile I have ever seen.
It was as if she were finally allowed to be a puppy, something that I don't
think she ever had the chance to do.  She was loving life that day and so
many others since she came to be a part of our family.

Cheyenne loves to be with our family so much, it is as if she knew from the
first moment she saw us that her life had finally changed forever,  and  she
was going to be happy.  Cheyenne is such a big part of our lives, she does
almost everything with us.  She loves to go for walks with Mom and also our
night walks with the family.  She has learned to be a wonderful hiker and we
can't wait to show her how much fun camping is.

I could go on and on about how Cheyenne saved our lives, but I think you can
tell as I sit here with tears in my eyes typing this.

The Dalmatian Plantation has done a wonderful job matching us,  and they
have been so supportive to our many questions.  They are doing such a
wonderful thing for all these precious dogs that they have saved and have
given them a real chance at life.  I look forward to working with them again
when we adopt our second Dalmatian some day.

Katie Sue Story

katiesue.jpg (23665 bytes)

Katie Sue was dumped at a shelter in Wisconsin and her time was up. With the help of fellow rescuers, Katie Sue came to The Plantation Animal Rescue. To her great fortune, Katie Sue was adopted by Katina Pride and Theron-A volunteer fire

Here is life from Katie's point of view

Hello!
I just wanted to tell you about my new home.  I now have a brother Stormy. We keep each other company when mom & dad go to work. Then we fight for all their attention when they come home. I really am not very fond of sharing my toys with him. Okay, I have plenty of toys, but he always has the one I want! Mom says they are both of our toys.

I know Santa gave each of us our ow n though. We had our own Christmas stockings for a reason. I got to see Santa and have my picture taken with him. I told him I wanted toys and pig ears!!! He really listened this year!

I have a doggie bed. I have to lay in it when I am bad. Sometimes if I am playing too rough, Dad says time out and I have learned that means I have to lay in my bed until he tells me I can get up. Sometimes they smack my nose with whatever is it I destroyed that I wasn't supposed to. It doesn't hurt though, but don't tell them. I think I have them fooled .

I don't have to sleep in my doggy bed at night. Stormy and I sleep with Mom and Dad in the waterbed. Sometimes there isn't room for all of us and Stormy and I will take turns sleeping on the floor. One night Stormy woke me up yelling about something. I was sleeping so sound, I stood up and started yelling at myself in the mirror. Mom and Dad both laughed at me. Lucky for me, they went back to sleep and quit laughing at me. I was half asleep and didn't realize what I was doing. Oh and my morning days are long gone and over. I find that Mom and Dad are much happier when the little box that plays music or beeps wakes them up. I gave up kissing them until they woke up. They always said something about it being too early. They are in a better mood when I just lay there quietly until they say "Good Morning".

Stormy and I get to sleep in the nude. Actually I have Stormy to thank or this. His previous family didn't make him wear a collar. He hated his collar, so he and Mom compromised. Thus he got the collar off atnight. We get dressed first thing in the morning. Then we can go outside.  We are left in the living room, kitchen and laundry area when we arehome alone. It's not too bad though. We always have cartoons or the
Animal Planet on and we have a big basket of toys to fight over. Mom
comes home everyday and eats lunch with us .
