Days Of Long Ago

Think Back into the past,
Far back into the memories that will always last...

Remember the times when fathers came home every night,
When mommies and daddies hardly seemed to fight.
Remember when families actually spent time together,
Funerals wasn't the only times for people to gather.

Little boys playing Cowboys and Indians, faking their deaths,
Tea Parties with a dolly named Lorie Beth.
Remember hot summer days and even hotter summer nights,
Warm summer breezes just right for flying kites.

Ice cold watermelon right off the vine,
And homemade ice cream tasted so fine.
Remember sticky fingers and muddy faces,
Climbing trees and squeezing in small places.

Lemonade made fresh and ice cold everyday,
Rolling and playing in the hay.
Remember swimming in creeks not in the pool,
Chasing fireflies at dusk was really cool.

Playing in an old fashioned tire swing,
Hearing mothers voice when she would sing.
Remember playing hopscotch on the ground,
Hearing gun shots was not a usual sound.

Playing outside and hating to come inside when the day was done
Remember when being a kid was actually fun.
Saying your prayers each night before bed,
All the fun things of the day running through your head.

Remember when you went to bed so tired you were out like a light,
Or pretending to be asleep so mom would carry you to bed at night.
Remember when you thought each day was the very day best you ever had,
Now that you think about it, "Those Days Weren't So Bad!"
