MarchMarch 26, 2000Just a rerun.March 19, 2000Rerun.March 12, 2000Rerun.March 5, 2000RerunFebruaryFebruary 27, 2000Felicity proved its mediocrity with this 5 Flush episode. I'm not sure if the show is just not great or if the writers are trying to be minimalist, and this minimalism explains the show's boring-ness. What do I mean by minimalist? I mean a lack of extravagant and unbelievable stories. But I think the writers fail on this count. A father who lies to his daughter. A chemistry genius. Felicity falling in love with a person who represents that which she has already rebelled against. An illegitimate pregnancy. Yeah, this show is real believable! We begin tonight's episode with Felicity. She continues to work long and hard at the health clinic. She actually gives up some shifts at Dean & Deluca so that she can work extra hours with Greg, the guy who runs the health clinic. Greg is upset because the health center is going to be inspected in a few days, and the clinic is short a few doctors. Felicity volunteers her dad's assistance. Dad agrees. Anyway, Felicity visits dad one night and sees some pills lying around. Apparently, dad is taking both sleeping pills and pills to control anxiety and panic attacks. One day, Felicity calls her dad at the hospital, but he is not at the hospital. He quit work there a few weeks ago. Felicity confronts her dad. He says that Felicity has no right to question his actions, because he did not question her decision to drop pre-med and become an artist. Later, he apologizes and says that he is having problems because he is just beginning to realize that his marriage is over. Anyway, at the end of the episode. Felicity goes to visit Greg to find out if the health clinic passed its inspection. Greg shares that the center passed. The two celebrate over sparkling cider. If Felicity has been hanging out with dad and Greg, who has Ben been with? Ben goes out on a date with some random girl, but when Ben and the girl start making out, Ben realizes that his mind is wandering to Felicity. He breaks up with the girl. Ben has become so lovestruck with Felicity that Javier notices. Javier talks to Ben and tells him that Ben's lovesickness is obvious. Javier says he knows that Ben is still in love with Maggie (remember her..the married woman who was a caterer?). Ben says that Javier is totally wrong. Anyway, Ben later talks with Sean. Sean tells Ben that he has to make a move on Felicity (as opposed to Sean who is too scared to make a move on Julie, because he knows that she only wants to be his friend). Ben goes to the health clinic to find Felicity and sees her with Greg. Greg and Felicity are leaning in towards each other and laughing at each other's jokes. Ben is highly disappointed in this. He just watches them from a distance as the episode closes out. But that's not all that happened this week. Elaine and Tracy study for their BIG chem midterm. Tracy already knows all of the answers. He is a natural genius. Elaine is very jealous of his ability, especially since he finishes the test before her and still got a higher grade (a "99" as opposed to Elaine's "95"). But the two like each other and are very cute as a couple. Finally, the Ruby-Noel saga. Ruby asks Noel to sign a permission slip so she can transfer out of his TA section. Noel agrees to do this, but then realizes how much he misses her. He will not let her leave his TA section. Also, he finds out that Ruby has not yet told her mother about the pregnancy. Noel does not understand why Ruby is doing what she is doing, but Noel wants to understand. Elaine tells Noel that he does not have to break up with Ruby, but come on...does anyone really believe this. Who knows where this story is going.
QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: Javier has no hair, have another chocolate eclair. --Javier quoting his boyfriend in an explanation of why Javier wants plastic surgery.
February 20, 2000A pretty darn good episode of Felicity that merits 7 Flushes. Noel is troubled about the Ruby-issue. She wants to keep the baby, but he does not. He tells Ruby that he needs some time apart from her. He even plans on missing Ruby's first appointment with a doctor. In the meantime, Pavone tells Ben that he has to sign up for a philosophy class, because he cannot choose how to do his community service. He ends up in Noel's class. Noel sees Ben in class, and asks to speak with him afterwards. Noel asks Ben about the situation that he had when he was in high school. Ben shares that the girl's name was Kelly and that he and she had only been going out a few months. The two had an appointment for an abortion, but at the last minute one of Ben's friends called Ben up and invited him to go snowboarding. He says, "I freaked out, and I went snowboarding instead." Ben says he wishes he had gone to the abortion clinic with Kelly. This story changes Noel's mind. He goes to the doctor's office with Ruby. At the doctor's office, Ruby gets a sonogram, and we learn that the baby is 8 weeks old. This means that Ruby got pregnant when she was in California. Noel is troubled. He goes to his apartment where the entire cast is. Allow me to explain.Felicity returns to work when Greg yells at her. Greg blames Felicity for erasing hundreds of files from the computer. Felicity says that she did not erase any files, but Greg does not believe her, instead he yells at her. Felicity goes home frustrated. Around this time, Felicity also learns that Greg has some kind of other problems. We do not know what kind of problems, but he has some problems. In the meantime, Elaine decides to throw a housepainting party. She invited Felicity and Julie to help her out. Felicity comes to the party with Ben, and Julie comes with Sean. Julie and Sean have been getting closer. Sean can tell that Julie is having problems and that she needs to seek psychological help, but Julie says that she is fine. Anyway, everyone goes over to Elaine's, including Elaine's boyfriend Tracey. (I wonder if we'll ever get to see Tracey and Elaine interact. So far their relationship has just been there.) Also at the party is Richard. Remember him as the annoying resident from last year. As the party is going on, Greg shows up at Felicity's apartment. Meghan answers the door and is instantly intrigued by Greg. She has a total crush on him, but all Greg wants to do is see Felicity so Meghan takes Greg to Elaine's apartment. Greg apologizes to Felicity for his behavior and says that he knows Felicity did not erase the files, because a child erased them by accident. Felicity smiles and says that she will help Greg reenter the files into the computer database. He stays at the party which soon becomes a dance fest until Noel walks in. Noel walks in and is very upset. He goes straight to his room. Richard wonders why Noel is so upset. Elaine says that Noel and Ruby have been having some relationship issues. Richard jokingly asks if he got her pregnant. The room silences. Everyone now realizes that Ruby is pregnant and wants to keep the baby. Everyone debates whether or not she should keep the baby. Noel can overhear this conversation so he comes in and says that the baby is not his. Just then the door knocks, it is Ruby. Everyone but Noel and Ruby leave the apartment. Noel and Ruby talk. She apologizes and says that she thought the baby was his. Nonetheless, this pregnancy and relationship is not resolved. Also, Felicity does help Greg with updating the computer. We learn that Greg is recovering from a tough break-up. Finally, Julie tells Sean that she was raped last year, and that she has not gotten over her sexual insecurities so she will go and seek help.
FELICITY FACT (but it may not be true): 64 % of teenage girls choose to have a baby when they become pregnant. Of these women who have the baby, 90% raise the baby.
February 13, 2000This was an extraordinarily powerful episode of Felicity that easily merits 9 flushes (out of ten), and I doubt that this show has ever been better. Pavone tells Felicity and Ben that they need to do fifty hours of community service and continue to see her as their punishment. They can choose from a number of places for where they want to work. Felicity chooses to work at the student health center. When Ben hears this, he announces that he also wants to work at the student health center. They report for duty the next day and their boss, Greg, is very obnoxious. He does not approve of slackers who do community service at the health center and do not really care about the place. In the meantime, Noel and Ruby contemplate taking a pregnancy test. Ruby does not immediately want to take the test, but eventually she does. The test turns out positive. And the scene where they find out that she is pregnant is quite emotional. They stare at the pregnancy test and wait to see what color the indicator will turn. They want it to be blue, but it turns pink, and they deny the indicator's pinkness until they must admit that Ruby is pregnant. The two go to the student health center and plan to get an abortion. Ben's job at the health center is to file different health reports. He sees the report with Ruby's name on it and discovers that Ruby is pregnant with Ruby's baby. Ben goes to speak with Noel. Ben says that he once got a girl pregnant. Noel says he does not care and leaves. In the meantime, Felicity sees Ruby crying in the bathroom. Ruby tells Felicity that she is pregnant and is going to have an abortion. Ruby then asks Felicity if she knows anyone who has ever been in this situation. Felicity says she does know someone. She says that this woman was 19 years old and got pregnant. The woman chose to keep the baby and marry the father. The two were seemingly happy, but have recently separated. Felicity is referring to her mother and father. This is the only information we received on the parents this week. It's the next day, and Felicity is at the health center when she sees Noel sitting around. Felicity almost goes up to say something to Noel, but does not. Just then, Ruby runs through the hall saying she cannot go through with the abortion. Noel chases after her. Felicity then goes to speak with Pavone who tells Felicity that she needs to support her friend, Noel. Felicity tells Noel that he is a strong guy who can get through this hard time. Noel says he is for the first time in his life truly scared. At the end of the episode, Ruby tells Noel that she wants to keep the baby. It is so freaky. Imagine being a junior in college and learning that you're going to be a father! In the background of this, Ben does a bad job working at the health center, and Greg asks Felicity to ask Ben to leave. Ben agrees to leave, but now needs to pick somewhere new to work. Where will he choose? Julie continues her record producing deal with Eric; however, he comes on to her. She at first lets him kiss her, but then she has a flashback to being raped by Zack so she makes him stop. Eric will no longer produce Julie's album. Julie feels down in the dumps, but Sean supports her and says that she will survive.
QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: Everybody has to figure out who they are, eventually. --Pavone to Ben
February 6, 2000Attention: Felicity fans. This show is starting to become unwatchable despite my roommate's argument that it was kind of interesting. Felicity and Ben both have to seek psychological counseling because they were caught drunk in the pool. The psychologist's name is Dr. Toni Pavone. Pavone is the actress who played Dr. Joey a number of years ago on Picket Fences...Dr. Joey was Jill's partner in the doctor business. Anyway, Pavone sees Felicity's problem as being serious because Felicity represses all of her emotions in an attempt to make everyone happy. Could this be less true? Felicity complains non-stop and self-examines every action she ever took, and she definitely does NOT make me happy. But Felicity claims that she went to sleep-away camp as a child because she realized that her parents wanted her to go. Felicity also says that she is miserable that her parents are getting divorced and that she does not want her father to stay in NY. In the end, Felicity is a more aware person who knows what she does and does not like. In the background of this, Ben was considering dropping out of school and traveling to Europe. Felicity said that she might go away with him. She decides not to, so Ben says that he'll stay in school. He also says that maybe they can go to Europe this summer. He is very specific with the word "they," because he wants to go with her (infer what you will). Also with Felicity, she learns that her parents married out of wedlock.Noel gets mad at Ruby when she writes a note to him on her midterm. Noel says that she is trying to gain favor with him. Noel says that he is not supposed to know who wrote which midterm so that he is partial. Ruby gets very angry at Noel. Noel then reads Ruby's essay and thinks that it is great, but she won't forgive his assumption that she only wanted to gain unfair favor. Noel then thinks about breaking up with Ruby, but cares too much to be the kind of guy who always breaks up with girls. In the end, Noel uses some smooth talking to get her back. QUOTE OF THE EPISODE: I hate my haircut. --Felicity
JanuaryJanuary 30, 2000RerunJanuary 23, 2000I apologize for this summary, but WGN was not transmitting Felicity last night and my TV screen looked like a black blob. I poached this summary off of the web.Meghan opens her mystery box and peers at it's contents. Felicity is sitting staring out the window. She asks Felicity what's the matter. Felicity says 'nothing, it's such a gray day.' Meghan comments that Felicity has been sitting there like that all morning. Felicity asks what's in her secret box. Meghan tells Felicity she'll find out soon enough. Noel is studying at Dean & Deluca. Ben is wiping down tables and Felicity taking doughnuts out of a box while staring at Ben and Noel. A woman enters and notices Felicity staring. She asks if she's staring at her boyfriend. Felicity says ex-boyfriends. She tells the woman it's complicated. The woman says love always is. Felicity asks if she can help the woman. The woman tells Felicity she might be able to help her. She hands Felicity a business card from the Clinic - Help for the lovelorn. She tells Felicity if she's romantically frustrated, lonely, dejected - she owes it to herself to call. Felicity asks if it's hypnosis or something. The woman simply says it's a treatment. For the incurable romantic - the clinic is the cure. She tells Felicity she waited 3 months to call them and advises her not to wait as long. The woman leaves. Felicity looks at Noel and then at Ben. She picks up the phone and dials the number on the card. The nurse at the clinic asks Felicity if she's ever had surgery - she tells Felicity it's a standard question. Felicity says she had her tonsils removed at age 8. The nurse asks how long she's been experiencing heartache. Felicity says it all started when she came to New York 15 months ago. She explains she puts too much importance on things - romance and sex. For some horrible reason love matters to her - Ben and Noel matter to her and she's sick of it. She's sick of caring so much, feeling torn, and wanting that connection - a soulmate. She explains to the nurse that she just wants the feeling to go away. The nurse asks her to sign a form. Felicity asks what the treatment is - whether it's some kind of psycho therapy. The nurse tells her the sooner she signs the sooner she gets to see the doctor. Felicity signs the form. The nurse gets the doctor. Felicity explains she's only there for a consultation. The doctor listens to her heart. The nurse brings in water for the doctor and Felicity. The doctor wants to draw some blood. Felicity wants to know why. The doctor doesn't tell her. Felicity tells him she's changed her mind and runs out of the office. The doctor tells her there's no reason to be afraid. She tells him she never said she was afraid. She returns to her dorm room. She opens a package containing a glass heart. She gets a call from the clinic to schedule a second visit. She tells the nurse she made it clear that there will be no second visit - she's just not interested. She attempts to apologize, but the nurse hangs up. At the library Felicity tells Elena about the glass heart she received from the clinic - she hadn't given them her address. She tells Elena a man who looks dead wants to talk to her. Elena asks what she took at the clinic. Felicity tells Elena she only drank the water. She runs into the stacks to find the man. He warns her about the clinic and the procedure. Felicity tells him she's not doing it. He tells she is - they're doing it to her right now. He disappears. Felicity frantically runs around the stacks looking for him. At Dean & Deluca Felicity tells Elena the man told her to stay away from snow. She asks Elena what she thinks the man meant when he told her they're doing it to her right now. Before Elena can answer the woman who gave Felicity the clinic business card comes in. She asks Felicity how it went. Felicity says she went to the clinic but she left. The woman says she heard. Felicity asks the woman if she heard, why did she ask her how it went. The woman tells her she really should go back - they wanted her to tell Felicity that. She gives Felicity another card and leaves. Elena comments that the woman is weird. Felicity calls the clinic. She tells the nurse she feels like they're harassing her and if they keep it up she'll report them. The nurse says she'll take care of it. Felicity tries to tell her that she didn't appreciate her hanging up on her when the nurse hangs up the phone. Later that night Felicity hears a raspy male voice calling her name from her tape recorder. She gets out of bed and picks up the recorder from the floor. She opens it and finds that the recorder is empty. The raspy voice tells her to open 67. Mehan turns over annoyed and asks if she's ever going to stop making those stupid tapes. Felicity is at the library. Julie tells her she looks terrible and asks if she wants to talk. Julie tells her the clinic called her and the want Felicity to go back. Felicity is outraged that the clinic is harassing her friends. She tells Julie about the tape recorder telling her to open 67. Julie suggests it's stress - emotional turmoil can have a bigger affect than she thinks. Felicity apologizes to Julie for the clinic bothering her. She tells Julie she's going to call the police and put a stop to it. Julie confesses that she went to the clinic over the summer. That's how she got over Ben and was able to forgive Felicity. Julie tells Felicity it's the best thing she's ever done. She had the procedure. Felicity begs Julie to tell her about the procedure. Julie says she can't - they make patients sign a non-disclosure agreement. She tells Felicity it's best that the people at the clinic explain what they do. Felicity starts a new job cleaning up a medical lab. There a few boxes with dead bodies. One of the boxes has the #67. Felicity opens the box. It appears to be just a normal cadaver. Just as she's closing the box it calls her name. She nearly jumps out of her skin. He tells her to unzip him if she wants to see what the clinic does to people - what they did to him. He tells her they cure a broken heart by ripping it out - and that's what they'll do to her. Felicity goes to the clinic demanding to know what was in the water. She's been hearing things, seeing things and talking to people that she doesn't even think exists. She asks why it was so important for her to drink the water. The doctor tells her she needs help. She tells him he needs help and she's going to report them to the police, the AMA, and the FDA. He calmly tells her there was nothing in the water - he drank it too. She tells him last night she had a conversation with a dead man who told her they take out people's hearts. He tells her she's imagining things. Felicity shows him the glass heart and tells him the package was postmarked the day before she called theclinic. She asks how did they know to send it and how did they even know her address. He asks how she know's she's not imagining the glass heart too - her story is impossible. He asks how she knows where truth ends and fantasy begins. Felicity says she knows because she can feel it. The nurse comes at her with a super long needle. Felicity throws the glass heart up against the wall. The pieces fall to the floor as she runs out of the office. She goes and cries on Noel's shoulder. She asks Noel if she's going crazy. He tells her there's an explanation for everything. He tells her love is her weakness - for her love is that elusive quality that can make her whole or unhinge her entirely. He tells her he believes her - it's his burden - always believing in her. She tells him she wants to report the clinic to the police. Noel says he'll go with her. He goes to change clothes. She notices a glass heart on the table. She picks it up and goes into the bathroom where noel is changing. She screams and drops the glass heart when she see's the super large stitches on his chest around his heart. Noel says it's been a long time since she's seen him without his shirt. He tells her Julie told him about the clinic a few weeks ago. He tells her it's the only way they're going to survive the emotional turmoil - who's in love with who - who's sleeping with who. He asks her if it's all worth and what they're looking for. Felicity says they're looking for love. Noel says love is unbelievably overrated. He says the clinic guarantees that you will never have a aching heart again. He asks if that's what she said she wanted. She says she did, but not anymore if not feeling heartache means feeling nothing at all then forget. They can all do it, but not her. She'll take all of loves pain if she gets to feel some of loves happiness. He tells her that is so 'old Felicity.' She tells him that's who she is - it's who she wants to be. He tells her she doesn't understand what's happening to her. He tells her to take a deep breath. She asks why. He says that's how anesthesia works. Felicity wakes up on an operating table. She asks the doctor what he's doing. He said she had quite a dream during the procedure - they had to increase her dosage. She tells him she never agreed to a procedure. He reminds her she signed the form. He tells her he thinks she'll be quite pleased. Felicity wakes up on the floor of what appears to be an empty room. Noel appears. She tells him to stay away from her - she'll kick his ass - she took a self defense course over the summer. She tells him to open his shirt and let her see his chest. He asks why. She tells him to just do it. He does and she's relieved that there are no marks on his chest. Ben, Julie, and Elena appear. They tell her they've been there for months. They don't know how they got there or how to get out. There's no food or water. Felicity searches for a way out. They tell her it's impossible - there are no doors. Felicity suggests they climb out. Everyone else is afraid so Felicity says she'll go. They all climb on top of one another and Felicity climbs to the top. She screams and falls. They wonder if she's alright. They ask her what's out there. Meghan picks up a little doll and asks how did that happen. She puts it back in her box telling it to get back in there with it's little friends. She places the Felicity doll in the box with replicas of Julie,Ben, Noel and Elena. January 16, 2000Four weeks later, and Felicity returns with a bust. Felicity is on the plane back to New York with her dad. Dad has invented some great medical invention and is teaching everyone at NYU how to use it for the next two weeks...mom is coming up in one week to spend some time with them. Felicity feels overwhelmed by her dad who is starting to always be around her. He actually bought her this telescope for Christmas even though she never wanted a telescope. Anyway, Felicity wanted to get into an oil painting class but was closed out due to the class being so popular. Dad says that because he now works at NYU that maybe he can get her into the class. She says no. He does it anyway, and she finds out. She is rejected from the class again, but is now mad at her dad. Her dad tells her that he got an offer from NYU to stay until June because they like him so much. Felicity says that his presence at school may be too much. He says that he has to stay because mom and him are separating. She plans on coming to NY next week to tell Felicity. Felicity doesn't let her mom know that she knows about the separation. As for Felicity's love life. Ben realizes that he really likes Felicity. She and he sneak into the University's pool one night, get drunk, and go swimming. They get caught and are in big trouble, possible expulsion. Felicity does not tell her dad about her activity...she thinks that her dad has his own problems right now. But will Felicity and Ben hook up? By the way, Ben is a little depressed, because the University cut funding for the swim team (of which Ben is a part).Julie signs a contract to record three demos for a record producer named Eric. Sean thinks Eric is only trying to get in Julie's pants, but when Eric and Julie hang out, he tells her that she doesn't have to hook up with him if she doesn't want to. Julie is happy to hear this, but when she goes to record her first song, she learns from some guy at the studio that Eric is a player and dates most of the talent he recruits. Also of note, Sean finally realizes that he is in love with Julie. Will Julie realize that Eric is really only interested in her for her body and then run into the arms of Sean? Noel is a TA for a philosophy class. The catch: Ruby is in the class. She says she doesn't want special treatment, but Noel puts extra pressure on her in class. He realizes his mistake and says he'll stop. Let me add a note here: if we hear anything about sexual harassment because Noel gave Ruby a pretty bad grade and she protests or other students thinks Noel gives her a good grade because she sleeps with him, I will seriously consider that I stop watching this show. NEXT WEEK: A black and white episode in which Felicity enters the Twilight Zone...literally. January 9, 2000Rerun.January 2, 2000Rerun. |
