Many episodes from the early part of the season are missing. For that I apologize.
JanuaryJanuary 27, 2000Rerun due to State of the Union.January 20, 2000RerunJanuary 13, 2000An over the top yet simple episode of Frasier that sometimes made me laugh very hard, but sometimes just bothered me. Frasier has the weekend to write a theme song for his radio show. He promised his viewers that he would write one by Monday. Martin comes up with a cute and simple ditty, but Frasier wants something more derivative of psychology as a whole subject. He wants a song that includes the entire scope of human emotion, so he ends up writing a musical piece that's like a minute or two long and has an entire orchestra plus a choir come to do the theme song. I must say that seeing Frasier conduct this orchestra was funnier than Mickey Mouse in "The Sorcerer's Apprentice." The station manager hears this song and freaks out. He likes Martin's jingle a lot better. Frasier goes home and talks to his dad who tells him that the best theme songs are simple and sweet. Frasier takes this advice and writes a fun and simple song.THE LYRICS TO THE TV SHOW (NOT THE RADIO SHOW) THEME SONG: Hey baby I hear the blues, they're calling. Tossed salads and scrambled eggs. And maybe I seem a bit confused. Yeah, maybe, but I got you pegged. But I don't know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs. NEXT WEEK: Rerun January 6, 2000Another well constructed episode of a brilliant television series. It's a few days before New Year's Eve, and the Cranes' brothers Millennium plans have been canceled when the restaurant they plan on going to is shut down after a fire. At the last minute they decide to go to Sun Valley, but the only way they can get to Sun Valley is in Martin's Winnebago. The three Crane men set out and during their ride, they stop for a meal. They all go into a diner, but Niles decides to go back into the Winnebago for a nap. He enters the wrong Winnebago, and when he wakes up, he thinks that his dad's Winnebago has been stolen so via his cell phone, he reports the Winnebago stolen. Frasier and Martin don't enter the bedroom section of the Winnebago so they assume Niles is sleeping. Frasier and Martin get pulled over by the cops but are released when they prove the Winnebago is theirs. Niles steals the Winnebago he is in when the people he believes are thieves enter a restaurant. In the end, all works out and the three Crane men have an enjoyable New Year's even though they don't make it to Sun Valley. The farce and comic timing made this episode more fun than words can describe.NEXT WEEK: Frasier attempts to write a jingle for his own radio show. DecemberDecember 30, 1999Rerun.December 23, 1999RerunDecember 16, 1999A lot of stuff happened this week, but I'm going to reduce it all to the nitty gritty. Last week, Daphne learned that Niles was in love with her. This week she talks about this problem with Roz, but Roz convinces Daphne that because Daphne is with her fiancee Donny, and Niles is with his new girlfriend Mel that Niles will never hit on Daphne. However, Mel breaks up with Niles when she learns that Niles spent some time with Maris. This makes Niles sad, but he still goes to give presents to Daphne and Roz. The gift for Daphne breaks before he gives it to her, so he gives Daphne the gift that was intended for Mel. In the meantime, Niles and Frasier talk about Maris. Niles shares that Maris wants him back, but he doesn't want Maris back. Frasier tells Niles that he has to tell her how he feels...Daphne overhears this and thinks that Niles will tell her that he loves her. After this, we learn that Mel has forgiven Niles. Niles then goes over to Daphne and tells her that they need to talk. Daphne thinks Niles is going to share his love. Instead, Niles asks for his gift back so that he can give it to Mel. Daphne says OK, but we can tell that Daphne is now in love with Niles.December 9, 1999The sh*t hits the fan as secrets are revealed. It's Frasier's birthday. His nerves act up in his old age, and his back goes out. A doctor tells Frasier that his problem is psychological, but prescribes some drugs nonetheless. Ros then suggests that Frasier sit in a room by himself and share his problems with nobody. He sits in his living room, downs some pills, and starts sharing his problems with Eddie the dog. Frasier tells Eddie that he is upset because Daphne will be leaving him soon because she is getting married. He says how much he cares about her and what not. Who overhears this? Daphne! Only Daphne only hears the part where Frasier loves her. Daphne runs away and then makes a loud re-entrance. Frasier says "hi" and asks for a massage from her. She is a little nervous about this. She tells him that she'll meet him in his room in a few minutes. He goes to his room. She gets some oils for the massage and then sees Martin. She tells him that she knows Dr. Crane (NOTE: Dr. Crane, not Frasier) loves her. Martin says that he's not interfering...he's known this secret for six years and won't say anything now. She is freaked by this, but goes to give Frasier the massage. As she nervously massages a Frasier who is slowly entering unconsciousness from the drugs he took, Daphne asks about his love for her. He tells her that she misunderstood him and that he only loved her like a family member. Daphne is relieved as Frasier almost enters complete unconscious. She asks Frasier what Martin meant by his "six years" comment, he tells her that Niles is in love with her. The next morning Frasier wakes up only remembering that Daphne is no longer confused about his love for her, and he tells Martin. Then the doorbell rings. Daphne answers it and sees Niles. She pauses. To be continued next week...NovemberNovember 11, 1999A very funny, but not phenomenal episode. Marty, Frasier, and Niles realize that they all have a particular habit in common..they love to watch "The Antique Roadshow." They learn that the show is coming to Seattle and Martin decides to find out how much a family heirloom clock of his is worth. His appraiser informs Marty that the clock is one of many from the Romanoff family, and that all of the other clocks are in a museum. Frasier and Niles now think that they are descendants of the Romanoff family even though Martin says that they aren't. They go and do some research and they eventually find out that their great great grandmother stole the clock from Queen Sonya of the Romanoff family, and that their great great grandmother was really a whore. A disappointment to Niles and Frasier, but a laugh to the rest of us. There were some other cute, but irrelevant stories in this episode.November 4, 1999This was my first experience with Frasier in a number of months, and I must admit that I was very happy with what I saw. The show was more than funny. If I taught English classes, I would show this episode as an example of dramatic irony. Frasier dreads this new art critic at the station, but when Niles meets her, there is instant attraction. Niles, however, thinks that Frasier is smitten with this art critic, Poppy. In reality Frasier likes his new neighbor, Regan. The catch, Regan is Niles' patient. Daphne overhears Niles tell Regan that there is no need for Frasier to know that "they have seen each other a few times." Daphne tells this to Frasier, and so he thinks that Niles likes Regan. Frasier thinks that Niles' relationship with Poppy is a front as Niles thinks of Frasier and Regan. The episode pursues from this standpoint until both Niles and Frasier's unnecessary jealousy leads to the destruction of both of their relationships. It was hilarious. Of course, after the relationships have ended, they realize their folly.NEXT WEEK: Could Niles and Frasier's pretensions be justified? Find out if the Cranes a royal family. |
