About Me
Hi!
I just wanted to thank you again for visiting my PolarPage. It is, as I mentioned on the homepage, my very first attempt at HTML programming so I don't have anything really fancy in here (like image maps). As time ticks on, I will figure out how to do bigger and better things, so this page should be constantly changing (hopefully for the better).
But... I'm rambling and you still don't know anything about me yet. Keep reading...
My name is Terry and I live in Vancouver, BC, Canada. I am a computer programmer.
Part time, I also teach piano and music history, and do tutoring in math and ESL.
I have an older brother and a younger sister. My bro,
Greg, is a dispatcher for a towing company, and he publishes a frequency book for eavesdropping on emergency communications in BC. My sister, Pamela (I like to call her sPam), is a pharmacist and is very knowledgeable about drugs...
What do I like to do? I like to play badminton, ski (downhill), rollerblade, surf the Net, and work on webpages. On the weekends, I go out with friends and play pool, party, and go clubbing (not all the time). Occasionally I feel like a lazy polar bear and snooze, or read books. I also visit my brother and we play head-to-head games like Quake2. When I'm bored, sometimes I jam on my keyboard and write rave music. Maybe some day I'll upload some music clips of stuff I've written. It took me two days to memorize the instrumental theme song from the Titanic movie... without ever seeing the music on paper! I listened to the music on my walkman and then played it back on the piano with all the "little bits" that are usually missing off sheet music.
I like animals (especially bears) and am also interested in languages, science, ... you name it. I can speak English, some French, some Russian, a bit of Spanish, a bit of Italian, a few words of Swedish, and various other words in other languages. I wouldn't mind emailing with someone who speaks French so I can practice mine... I'm pretty rusty. However, write in any language you want and I'll decode it at the library! (Martians need not apply.)
I should also mention that I'm an aspiring author. I read tons of books, especially kids' books, to get ideas and see what kinds of books are out there (and frankly, a lot of it is garbage!!). Over the last four years, I've averaged reading about one book every two days. I even had a database of all the books I read, until the program crashed... I'll resurrect it one day. So, if you were wondering if a particular book is good or not (I've read pretty much all of the Goosebumps series, for example), I can probably give you an opinion. When I get around to it I will put up a list of books that I recommend, like Matilda by Roald Dahl.
What else can I tell you? My fastest typing speed was around 95 wpm, but I usually average about 80. I used to own a Hutch BMX ... I mounted a digital speedometer on it so I could see how fast I was going. My friend and I used to look for steep hills so we could do top speed runs (**kids - do NOT try this at home!!**). My best run was 79.9 km/h (50 mph) down a fairly steep hill. I was tailgating a Hyundai Pony who refused to go any faster! I would have passed, but unfortunately, there was oncoming traffic on one side and gravel on the other.
My faves:
TV Show: X-Files, Nash Bridges, Red Dwarf, Poltergeist: The Legacy, Dawson's Creek, and anything with polar bears.
Food: Well... I'm usually as hungry as a bear, so I'm not too picky.
Animal: Polar bear (duh!)
Pet: Probably that would be a Samoyed (looks somewhat like a white Husky.)
Actor: Jean Reno, Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford
Actress: Too many to list!
So... that's me (or at least a reasonable facimile thereof)!
Here's a picture of Erin and I. Did you know Erin has the same birthday as me?
My sister Pamela (on the right) and two of her friends (Marlene and Jencinne). They are all pharmacists!
My buddy Dave and his Mustang GT (partymobile). Actually, he has a brand new Mustang now because someone torched his garage and burned his house (and car) down.
The bears, doing a polarpile.
