Politica was created in September 2002, mostly in response to what the author Norman Solomon would call "the habits of a highly deceptive media", but also against the deceit fed to the media by those in power. Politica is thus designed to provide perspectives on world events that may not always make it to the mainstream press. Although we have only just launched this site, we hope it will eventually make a valuable contribution to the understanding of political events around the world. We will seek to place international developments in their proper context by investigating not only the proximate, but also the ultimate causes behind them.We recognise that total objectivity may be an impossible utopia, and inevitably, our own essays will also be biased. Biased in favour of universal human rights, social and international justice, that is. Navigating our site is easy. You can either consult our Menu, which contains an interactive map allowing you to access essays about the region of your choice, or you can browse our book reviews, or our eyewitness accounts of events around the world, as well as some of our favourite quotes from different media outlets. Clicking on the title will take you back to the homepage. This title is coloured in blue, green, red and white, which are the four colours found in most flags of the world. We are hoping to translate at least some of the information on these pages into French, and later into other languages, as well as to expand the range of services we have to offer.
