Chapter 7: It's A Date

"Morning," JC greeted Sydney as he came into the kitchen shortly after Chris had made his entrance.

"Hey," She said, smiling at him. She watched him sleepily study the refrigerator first, a habit which she had also done since she was a small child. "Orange juice is on the counter," She informed him, knowing that was what he was looking for. He glanced up at her, smiled and poured himself a glass.

"We've never really talked," He said, sitting down in the chair near her. "I mean, I know who you are, but I don't know who you are, get what I mean?"

Sydney laughed, "yeah, same about you. Well, my name's Sydney Lincoln. I'm nineteen and I go to UCLA." She told him, "I love dogs, basketball, and movies." She added, grinning.

"Cool, my turn," he said, making her laugh, "My name's Joshua Scott Chasez, but most people just call me JC. I'm twenty-four, and old person compared to you. I love dogs, basketball, movies, and chinese food…oh yeah and music of course."

"Well, that was a very thorough introduction, Mr. Chasez," Sydney told him.

"Why thank you Ms. Lincoln." He said, grinning at her. Sydney realized he was very attractive, the way his blue eyes sparkled at her.

"Man, how's anyone supposed to get any sleep with people yakking all day long?" Justin grunted, entering the kitchen.

"What's wrong, Ju Ju?" JC teased, causing Sydney to giggle. Justin eyed both of them, wondering all of a sudden how they got so close.

"Nothing," He muttered, sitting in an empty chair.

"My, my, aren't we Mr. Grumpy today?" Sydney teased. "Let's leave him alone, JC?"

"Sure. Wanna go play some basketball? I bet I can kick your tush." JC challenged her.

"In your dreams," She retorted, "let's go."

"Ah! No fair!" Sydney yelled out obnoxiously. "You're cheating!"

"What? Because I made a basket? Puh-lease." JC said, rolling his eyes.

"Whatever." Justin watched them jokingly bicker from inside of the kitchen window, wondering why he felt so rotten seeing them so friendly. Women were a joke to him, he never lasted long with just one. But there was something about Sydney, something about how she laughed, or teased him. She even defiantly rebelling against him, which was one thing that a lot of girls wouldn't do.

"Something wrong, Justin?" Chris asked, coming back into the kitchen.

"No," Justin answered quickly. Chris looked out of the window.

"Ahh, studying Sydney, eh?" He asked knowingly.

"I am not!"

"Too bad, she's cute. Too bad you wouldn't have a chance." Chris teased him.

"What? I could if I wanted to!" Justin said, his pride injured by Chris' surprise attack.

"Sure." Chris said sarcastically, grinning.

"Whew, man I kicked your butt!" Sydney said triumphantly as she and JC re-entered the house.

"Only because you complained seventy-five percent of the time," JC retorted, trying to avoid her punches.

"You ready for our date tonight, Syd?" Justin teased her. He was sprawled on the couch, watching television.

"Ooh, yeah," Sydney said, smacking her head. "I almost forgot. Where we going?"

"How about this restaurant Lindy told me about, Marie Swansons?"

"I love that place!" Sydney said, smiling widely. "It's a date."
