ECB Natwest Cricket Force

Pool CC are part of the ECB Natwest CricketForce programme which encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give something back to their local community cricket club by volunteering to undertake major renovations to clubhouses and grounds. The 2007 event takes place on the weekend of March 30 - April 1. Please support your club by giving some time to help. Details to follow………..

Changing Rooms

Money from the great efforts of Pool CC Ladies as well as a £20,000 contribution from Leeds City Council has meant that the long awaited renovation and extension of the changing rooms has commenced. The changing rooms will double in size with each having it's own toilet and showers. An umpires room with shower, toilet will be created and the balcony will be extended.

In recent times, Pool CC has been transformed with vastly improved practice and playing facilities and this scheme, which should be completed before the start of the season, will compliment these.

Fortunes

Pool CC came out as a winner in the latest Episode of 'Fortune: Million Pound Give Away', walking away with a stunning £18,000. The money, awarded to the club following a pitch made to a panel of millionaires as part of ITVs 'Fortune: Million Pound Giveaway' programme will go towards completing a long-delayed scheme to create new changing rooms that will be able to accommodate women and also include disabled access. It is hoped that these facilities will support the already thriving sports scene in the local area.

For Pool Pumas it will mean a more secure future at the club and will allow them to grow and expand attracting more girls from across the local area. The programme was aired on ITV on Tuesday 30th January between 8 and 9pm and was watched in the clubhouse by the majority of members of Pool CC. A big thank you goes out to everyone involved in this venture from start to finish.

Pool CC Ladies Senior team won the White Rose League in 2006 and progress to play in the Northern League for the 2007 season. A team will also play in the Nidderdale Evening League and the juniors play in the Airedale Junior League Competitions.

AGM

This years AGM is on Tuesday 12th December at 8:15pm in the Village Hall.

Fortunes

Pool CC Ladies and Girls had a successful audition for a new show called Fortunes. They will film the show on 14th December in London and have the chance to win £20,000 to go towards the changing room project. If anyone would like to go to London to support the team in their quest for the money, a free coach trip has been organised. Hopefully we can have a few faces from Pool CC in the audience and be able to (fingers crossed) celebrate on the way back home! Please contact Wendi if you would like to attend 07737 876294.

Pool CC have drawn arch rivals Otley in the first round of the cup to be played on Sunday 6th May. The first XI are at home and the 2nd XI at Otley. Winter Nets @ Woodhouse Grove School. Season Summary

Both Pool CC teams can be extremely satisfied with their performances over the season.

After promotion last season, the first XI came joint third in their first ever season in Division A and reached the semi finals of the Waddilove Cup. They were in with a shout for the title right up until the last game. Notable performances include Atiba Allert's 83 league wickets which included hatricks against Burley and Rawdon. Atiba also won the league bowling prize. James Ward had an excellent first season with 583 runs. Mark McEneaney had an excellent all round season scoring 511 runs and taking 41 wickets. John Goldthorp had a great season behind the sticks winning the league keeping prize with 32 victims.

After a shaky start, the second XI recovered well to firmly establish themselves in Division B, finishing 8th. John Wood excelled with the bat scoring 807 league runs averaging 53.8 with two centuries. Adam Turner also did well in his first season scoring 419 runs and stalwart Dicky Bolton scored 471 runs. Julian Davey got 38 league wickets including an amazing 10 for 40 against Menston.

Both teams can look forward to next season with optimism.

Pool CC staged the Waddilove Cup Final on Sunday August 6th and the day was a huge success. All the efforts of the Pool volunteers were rewarded by the recognition received from the league as well as in the local press. A big thank you goes out to everyone who contributed.

The League White Rose XI defeated the Bradford League at Green Lane on Sunday 30th July to win the cup for the first time since 1985. Pool CC had three of its players representing the White Rose XI this season. Mark McEneaney captained the side which also included James Ward and Mark Harrison.

SEASON 2006

The first XI were run away champions last season and are now preparing for their first ever season in the top flight. Recruitment has been quality, rather than quantity with the signings of John Goldthorp and James Ward but there are still a couple of notable irons in the fire. West Indian quick Atiba Allert will be overseas player and those who played against him last season know he is a quality player.

The second XI struggled last season and were relegated from a very strong division A. This season however, they have picked up a few signings and are looking to consolidate their position.

Last year, Simon Dart did an excellent job for the first XI and this season we will be looking to continue his good work. Two significant improvements over previous years were in the batting and fielding departments. Simon instilled a confident and positive approach to our batting and our fielding was arguably the best in the competition. This season we will be looking for the team to work hard and maintain these high standards.

Our preparation was also excellent last season and is something which we arekeen to continue. League and Cup matches start at 1:30pm, except the first four and last four league games, which start at 1pm. Our aim is to arrive at the ground an hour before the match commences and start our warm up 45 minutes before the start time.

Nets are important so please make every effort to attend. The first outdoor net will be on Tuesday 18th April at 6:30pm. Outdoor nets will then continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the remainder of the season.

POOL PREPARE FOR 1ST XI DIVISION A STATUS

Pool Cricket Club has wasted little time since the closure of the 2005 Season and is preparing well for the Club’s first ever campaign in the A Division of the Airedale & Wharfedale Senior Cricket League.

All Senior Members of the squad remain and will hopefully be added to over the next few weeks.

The Club are delighted to have kept the services of the talented all rounder Mark McEneaney, winner of this years League under 20 batting prize.

The Club have already secured the services of keeper/batsmen John Goldthorp from Farsley. This is a major signing for the Club as John brings vast experience from his many years in the Bradford League and indeed the Yorkshire 2nd XI. It is hoped that this signing will encourage other players to join and also show the intent and ambition of the Club.

Attiba Alert will be joining as overseas player for the season; he is a fast opening bowler who took 60 wickets for Knaresborough last season.

Other players are being approached to hopefully provide a competitive squad for the Senior League sides.

The Club has also engaged the services of Clive Singleton as full time groundsman. This was a necessary step due to the number of matches now played at Pool. Clive has improved the wicket drastically over the last few seasons and his greater involvement will be invaluable.

The Club has a thriving Junior section with one or two players already pushing through to the senior ranks. Cricket is now played from under 9 level up to under 15’s and it will not be too long before the Club has home grown talent flourishing in the senior XL’s. Last season several players represented Leeds City boys and Redmond Bolton played for Yorkshire under 11’s. Josh Inglis won the Lords Taverners under 11 player of the year award. 15 girls played for the County at various age groups, a wonderful achievement. This section only began 7years ago and has 110 members and has allowed the Club to reach Club mark Status and become an English Cricket Board (E.C.B) recognised Focus Club.

Members next Season can look forward to practising on 3 new grass practice wickets with roll on/ roll off nets. We will also have had a 3 lane all weather net system built; this will be situated off the playing field and behind the score box. All this has been provided with a £50,000 grant from the E.C.B.

These are exciting times for the Club and for the other forward looking sporting Club’s of the Village. A state of the art changing facility is currently being planned with the help of the F.A. and Football Foundation .This will hopefully be in place for the 2007 Cricket Season. Before 1983 there was no League Cricket and promising Juniors relied coaching from Schools and neighbouring Clubs in the area.

The Club is keen to hear from any quality League players who may be interested in joining a progressive, ambitious and friendly Club, whose development has been recognised and supported the E.C.B

Please contact John Wood on 07715369848 for further details.
