Friday was a riot. I shouldn't use that word, Zimbabwe is not too far from here.
I made reservations for a car and a cheaper hotel. Since It looks like I can justifiably stay on the company's dime thru saturday, but I cannot easily move out of the hotel into a cheaper one (my dimes are smaller) saturday since I'm going off to an all day rifle match, I figured I'd move into the Holiday Inn, maybe 200 yards north of the Intercontinental Sandton Sun, less than half the price!
So after the morning's work, A coworker and I walked to the hotel and he helped me pack and check out.
I got my rental car, my local (drives-on-the-wrong-side-of-the-road-all-the-time) friend helped coach my first experience driving on the wrong side of the road, it musta been hilarious for him, it was for me, a little teeny weeny thing I couldn't hardly get in and out of. And the 5 speed in addition to being on the wrong side, left hand, it was different than my old Land Cruiser, so I kept trying to start in 3rd gear.
I parked here at the office and when I went to pull out of the parking space, I figured I'd just whip around back of the building and out, problem was, as I drove around the octagonal building, the road got narrower and narrower until it was so narrow I could not open the doors and it dead ended at the emergency exit door, it was not a road! So I had to back out, that was an excersize! it took maybe 5 minutes to negotiate a curve that wasn't too hard in forward.
So, I found my way to a conference center about 10 miles from here and attended an event.
Then, I had to get back here for my 4 pm meeting, traffic was bad.
I have to get out of the 4 pm meeting and over to the other office to take care of some data.
Then I have to go back to the first office.....
All this driving and I didn't get hijacked once!
And I drove on the locally-used side of the road every time, I will not call it the correct side!
I'm off to a rifle match all day Saturday and will report again Sunday.
