A Teacher’s Showcase Table will be displayed during registration and social Friday night (6 – 8 p.m.). This is to allow teachers to display teaching proposals (either color photocopies or even stitched) so that other chapters in the region can see what's available. This will help chapters plan their education programs (or future region meetings) as well as give our teachers some publicity. There is no charge for displaying information. |

This band sampler design area is 48 X 153 stitches. It is stitched on 28-count sand-colored Cashel linen using DMC floss and the latest colors of Simply Shaker Sampler Threads, embellished with beads. The many bands are made up of a variety of traditional sampler stitches along with some variations of the stitches to achieve dimension. There are more than twenty different stitches used. The instruction booklet contains detailed instructions along with stitch diagrams for the specialty stitches in each band. Pre-stitching is required for basting the margins and lines between the bands prior to class. When the basting is done the majority of the counting is already complete and the fun can begin. Student to bring basic sewing kit. A light and magnification is a personal option. |
This introduction to beading is begun with a ladder of bugle beads. From the bugles, rows of brick stitch utilizing Japanese seed beads are done to the desired length of the amulet. The session will discuss introductory beading terminology, the pros and cons of beading supplies as well as the basics of finishing your work fringing and necklaces. The instructors will share her successes as well as her less than desirable amulets so that your first beaded amulet may be a masterpiece. Techniques: two needle ladder and the brick stitch. Each kit will include: seed beads (2 colors) if desired, finishing beads for necklace and fringe, needles, Silamide thread, and bead charting paper (for the more adventurous who would like to chart a basic design). Participants are asked to bring: a small SHALLOW dish or 6 x 8" piece of ultra suede or felt to bead from, magnification and additional lighting if desired. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING NEW- check your kitchen cupboard. Extra disposable airline dishes will be available if you are not able to locate anything suitable. Color choices: hematite (black)/gray, blue (no 2nd color), purple/amethyst (2 shades). Contact the instructor at least 6 weeks in advance, if none of these colors will work for you but you are dying to take this class. A special kit MAY be able to be assembled for an additional fee. |
Heartland Region will sponsor Canvaswork Mariner's Compass. This will be the fourth region-sponsored class presented at regional meetings. Denise Bielick will teach Canvaswork Mariner's Compass to individuals who represent their chapters with the intention of sharing the techniques with their home chapters. This canvaswork piece is an adaptation of the traditional mariner's compass. It is worked with a variety of stitches in an assortment of different threads. There will be more than one color scheme to choose from. A short lecture on color and design will be included. Details about registration will be sent to each chapter president early in 2002. NOTE: Registration for this class is handled separately from this form and directly with the Region |
