(I published this item myself in hard-copy before any postings hence the copyright notice) _Blinde By the Ashes_- Gardner Moore, Copyright 2002 by Spring Street Creative Productions. ? Used by permission. 1-We were summer gold and autumn red, People envied us, they said, But they just couldn't see the ghosts within our minds. Now getting through each day, I can barely see the way, Blinded by the ashes that our love left behind. 2-The last time I saw you, And how you looked at someone new, I guess I really should have known what I would find. But these days I never know, The way anything should go, Blinded by the ashes that our love left behind. Bridge-And even in the ashes, I still can feel the flame, My spirit goes through changes but my soul remains the same. 3-The fire feels so chill, But it's burning still, I t fills me with the pain that it's refined. And this is how I'll feel, Because just my pain's still real, Blinded by the ashes that our love left behind. Author's Comments; I universalized it a bit to be about any couple's breakup because I still have the notion I might find a composer/collaborator and actually sell some lyrics someday. The "summer gold and autumn red" is not just a reference to Tara's and Willow's hair colors; it's also a metaphor for a perfect couple and is supposed to remind people of the Spanish flag. I had the first 2 verses written out in my head in the time it took to walk from the check-cashing office to my car. The bridge and third verse came about a month later.
