School: Evocation

Range : 0

Duration : 1 hour/level

Area of Effect : A path 100 feet long and 5 feet wide

Components : V, S, M

Casting Time : 1

Saving Throw: None

This spell was created by Lady Wilhelmine Vlaardoen, "Princess of the Flaems," and is known only to her. Since she displays it quite often, perhaps there are different versions of the spell in Glantri. Lady Wilhelmine uses this spell whenever she parades along the streets of Bergdhoven. By casting the spell one of her hand start sprouting a fountain of multicolored tulip's petals. She usually casts two such spells, one for each hand, and directs them to the crowd at the sides of the street. The petals dissolve after the duration of the spell has elapsed. It is said that some petals do not dissolve at all and that they bring good luck to the owner. For such an event to occur the owner must catch no more than one tulip petal and keep under a pillow for one night's sleep.

The material component is a single petal of tulip.

Wilhelmine's Childish Playground

Level: 2

School: Invocation, Illusion

Range : 0

Duration : 1 hour/level

Area of Effect :The caster + 1 child/5 levels of the caster

Components : V, S

Casting Time : 1 turn

Saving Throw: None

This spell was created by Lady Wilhelmine Vlaardoen with the aim of enjoying a bit of her lost childhood. When she wishes to cast this spell, she has to lay in bed counting aloud. In 1 turn, she falls asleep.

While sleeping, she returns a child and finds herself in a playground. There she can choose to play alone or with other children. The maximum is 1 child every 5 levels. She has to know who the children really are but she doesn't have to know how they looked like when they were children. Her favorite playmates mates are her husband and Lady Sinaria Verlien. When she wishes to be really bad, she adds Doña Carnelia de Belcadiz in her playground. Any damage suffered while sleeping is not real. However the time spent sleeping in this way does not count as normal rest since she will be very tired after so much playing.

While sleeping she is protected by an alarm that wake her up if someone comes within 10 feet of her bedroom.

Improved Pyramid of Fire

Level: 9

School: Evocation, Elemental Fire

Range : 10 yards/level

Duration : Instantaneous

Area of Effect : A pyramid made of flame, 20 feet high, 20 square feet at the base

Components : V, S

Casting Time : 9

Saving Throw : Half damage

Lady Wilhelmine Vlaardoen crafted this spell from the Flaemish spell of pyramid of fire, but it is actually more akin to the meteor swarm spell. She discovered an ancient Flaemish book that stated that the Archduke van Drees was able to cast such a spell. Since she was not able to find any scroll with the spell, she was able to extrapolate her own spell based on its descriptions.

The spell functions as pyramid of fire does, but the caster has two more alternatives. First, she can release a devastating explosion at the center of the pyramid, causing 25d6 points of damage. Second, she can release 5 lesser explosions, one at each corner of the pyramid, each causing 5d6 points of damage. All the explosions have a radius of 15 feet.

The victims may roll a save vs. spell to halve the damage.

Flail of Purification

Level: 4

School: Evocation

Range : 0

Duration : 1 turn/level

Area of Effect: A burning flail

Components : V, S, M

Casting Time : 4

Saving Throw: None

This spell was created by the Inquisitor of Family Rjevens. This spell is common amongst the Flaems as it had been used for public punishment of priests and enemies.

By casting this spell, the caster causes a burning flail to appear in her hand. The flail causes 1d6+1 hp of normal damage, plus 1d4 hp for fire damage. Fire damage may have an added modifier of +2 to –2 depending on the vulnerability of the target to fire.

Lady Wilhelmine Vlaardoen is known to posses this spell, but had rarely used it against foes. Instead she had spent a lot of time training in its use under the guidance of a member of the Bergdhovese Army. She finds it a good way to relieve her anger and has reached Grand Mastery in the use of the flail.

Commune with Painting

Level : 7

School: Alteration

Range : 0

Duration : 1 hour

Area of Effect: 1 painting 10 square feet/level

Components : V, S, M

Casting Time : 1 turn

Saving Throw: None

This is another spell of Lady Wilhelmine Vlaardoen that relates to her lonely childhood. Lady Wilhelmine often commissions a Bergdhovese artists paint for her few wonderful landscapes, which she then enchants with this spell and displays in her private showroom in Linden Tower.

By casting this spell on a painting, the caster enters a pocket dimension represented by the very landscape depicted. Everything represented is real, as well as anything the painter wished to depict in the painting. This could represent a danger, because if the painter wished to paint a grass field wishing it to be grab grass, the caster would find herself real grab grass.

The caster, while in the painting can interact with all elements of the painting, such as vegetation, creatures and structures. Should the caster permanently modify any of these features, the painting will also change accordingly. The changes can be seen only after the spell has elapsed (i.e. Anyone viewing the painting while the caster is in it will not see the changes until later, thus preventing spying on the caster's activities.)

Within the pocket dimension of the painting, time runs slower. One hour in real time can be extended to 1 hour per experience level of the mage (i.e. Lady Wilhelmine, a 23rd-level mage, can spend 23 hours inside the painting, but will only have lost 1 hour in real time.)

Weather and the time of the day are always the same and cannot be altered by spells. Spells of conjuration and summoning and of divination do not work within the painting. Spells of travel work only within the pocket dimension, but cannot be used to exit the painting.

The caster can enter and exit the spell at will, or at the end of the spell's duration, returning to the showroom where the painting is located.

Treasures of Wilhelmine Vlaardoen

The Mirror of Ill-Fated Omens

Description: The Mirror of Ill-fated Omens is a full-length rectangular glass mirror, arched at the top, and set in a simple frame of redwood. The curious thing about it is that it does not reflect people who pass by it. The Mirror emanates a strong aura of divination magic.

History: The Mirror of Ill-fated Omens was created by a diviner of Family Rjevens, and has been in the family's possession ever since. Originally, the Mirror did not have a name, but many rumors about it and its powers to predict unfortunate events circulated in Bergdhoven, and the Flaemish people came to refer to it by the name it is called now.

Its present owner is Lady Wilhelmine Vlaardoen, wife of Prince Vanserie of Bergdhoven and descendant of Family Rjevens, and it is kept in a corridor near the Prince's Chambers in Linden Tower. It is said that Lady Wilhelmine was advised about her barrenness by the Mirror. It is also said that Prince Vanserie foresaw his own death in the Mirror.

These strange tales of the Mirror inspired the contemporary Bergdhovese painter, Jan deMeers, to present that very moment in his masterpiece entitled "The Ill-Fated Omen." The painting can be found in the private collection of Lord Pieter Vandehaar, Baron of Oxhill, and depicts Prince Vanserie gazing at a gruesome skeletal reflection of himself in the said Mirror. (See page 117 of The Grimoire from Glantri: Kingdom of Magic)

Powers: The Mirror has the following powers:

Scrying. The Mirror can function as a crystal ball with telepathy, with its percentage of success increased by 1% for every 2 levels of the mage, and the viewing period increased by 1 round for every 2 levels of the mage. The Mirror is also attuned to the Elemental Plane of Fire, and the usual 25% penalty is dropped when viewing into that Plane. The chances of the scrying being detected are halved (i.e. via detect scrying), as well as the effectiveness of spells that prevent location or scrying (i.e. obscure object, false vision). Like a crystal ball, certain spells that can improve the use of this device—comprehend languages, read magic, infravision, tongues—can be cast at 5% success rate per level of the caster.

Divination. The Mirror can be used as a conveyor of divination magic, and increases the percentage of success of the following divination spells: identify, contact other planes, legend lore, vision, foresight.

Omen of Ill-Health. The Mirror automatically reflects the image of a person who has something wrong with his health or who will have some kind of illness in the near future (i.e. within a one-year time span). The image of the person will hint at the illness, but will only appear once and never again. A person can only receive one omen for every ten years of life.
