So you go to Tokyo. I mean, at least your best friend and your childhood sweetheart are there. You like them. You had this whole sweet thing six years ago where you promised to always protect her, and he promised to always protect you... it was great. And the first thing you run into are two weird guys in a weird bubble firing weird shit at each other and dying. Which of course results in an earthquake partially leveling Tokyo. Oh, this is an auspicious way to come home... and it doesn't really help that some random guy was watching AND knows your name AND implies that this has something to do with that Fate thing of yours. It's not even like you knew them.
But anyway, those guys are dead. So you go to see your best friend and his sister, and hey! More weird people you don't know are attacking them with more weird shit. Like electrical cables from Hell. Isn't that just great? And as soon as you're face to face with your good old buddy, you get sucked into a dream where yet another person you've never met tells you yet again that you have a Fate. Because you're Kamui. Hey, you say, it's not like I asked for this name... but no. Apparently, Fate wants you to save the world, and so do a bunch of weird people you've never met before. They all seem to know you, of course. I mean, you would have thought someone could at least tell a kid that the fate of the world was his responsibility. Everyone else seemed to know.
So weird people show up. They destroy shit in really weird ways. It's all very confusing. All you know is that at some point, your best friend and your childhood sweetheart disappeared. And they're the only people left you care about since your mom ripped a sword out of her gut and set herself on fire earlier this evening, so let's just say you want them back.
You tally up the pros and cons to saving the world while wondering where your only friend and your girlfriend are. In the morning, you've decided to save the world (but only because it didn't turn out to be a nightmare caused by too much wasabi before bed). I mean, you may not care about most people, but you do care about those two. You don't want them to die, and if the world gets destroyed that's part of the package. Besides, that weird person who sucked you into the dream made it graphically obvious that if you don't do what she says, you'll kill the girl. You don't want that.
So these random people who do strange things go off and kill other random people who do strange things, all in the course of this battle to decide the fate of the Earth that's supposedly your responsibility, and they all die causing Tokyo to suffer massive earthquakes. The weird random people still expect you to save the world, and in the middle of all these people you don't know whose names you can barely remember dying for your sake, your best friend shows up and turns evil. He starts leading the battle to destroy humanity, and says he's going to kill you. It's Fate. Because you chose to save the world (which you did for him and his sister, remember?), someone had to try to destroy it, and Fate picked him. Damn Fate. Somewhere, deep in your soul, you know that you will wish to throttle the next random person who says the word "Fate" to you. Now, you're gonna have to kill your best friend, one of your only two living reasons to save the world at all, since your mother ripped a sword out of her gut and set herself on fire last night.
So then, said best friend shows up with his sister (who has been missing this whole time), rips a sword out of her gut and leaves her in your arms to die. And you thought she'd live if you decided to save the world. Sucker. Isn't Fate just great?
Night is about to fall, and you go to Tokyo Tower, which is just about the only major structure left standing in Tokyo since all those random people dying in their weird little bubbles caused yet more earthquakes to rip through the city. And in order to save the world, you're about to kill the only person you care about (ever since he pulled a sword out of his sister's gut fifteen minutes ago and left her in your arms to die, and last night your mom pulled a sword out of her gut and set herself on fire). The two of you got out said swords, ran at each other, attacked, and you won. Music swells in the background, and you have a cheery flashback to the promises you made each other as you left Tokyo six years ago. You would always protect his sister, and he would always protect you. Now, she's dead and his head is lying at your feet. But hey, you saved the world! Doesn't that make you feel good?
What do you mean, no? Listen to the music! Will you stay with me... will you hold my hand... Forever Love, Forever Dream...
Or you could scream and cry and cuddle the severed head of your best friend. That works too. You've earned it. Your day sucked.
