 						that Kempo was brought to the island of Okinawa in the 16th 
						century and was therefore very influential in the creation of Okinawa-te, 
						which later became Karate. It is also known as Chinese Boxing, because 
						traditional Kempo focuses on swift hand techniques and uses the feet only 
						for moving the fighter out of harm's way. However, many modern styles of 
						Kempo employ low kicks for self-defense and some of the more sport oriented 
						varieties of Kempo include high kicks as well.
