Basta Pasta opened its doors in November of 2004 & has been thriving ever since. Today, Skippack is known for its numerous restaurants, shops & boutiques. What people may not know is the Historic Value that Skippack Village represents.
In 1706 Hendrick Pannebecker settled in Skippack Village and acted as a representative by surveying and preparing deeds for the early settlers in The Village.
In 1713 Skippack Pike, now known as Route 73 was built during the Revolutionary War as a pathway for George Washington and his troops to travel to and from Germantown.
In 1902 Skippack Pike was incorporated into a 16 mile long Railway to run between Norristown and Souderton by way of Trooper, Center Point, Skippack, & Harleysville.
As you drive down Skippack Pike, you may have noticed the concrete piers along the south side of the road while driving over Skippack Creek. They were built there in 1907 to carry a Trolley car across the creek, into Skippack, and beyond.
The Trolley Service ran from 1907 until 1925, when it was planned to be discontinued. On the last day the service was scheduled to run, June 7, 1925, the end came to a screeching hault -literally. Two trolley cars collided after one was launched into the other. The Trolley service was never made available to the public again.
