And quintessentially 80's is what I am... there are lots of things about the 80's that I enjoy... mainly things like fashion, movies, music, and such...

80's fashion, particularly of the early 80's Valley Girl type, is my favorite... it may often make me look much younger and ridiculously cutesy, but I will NOT give up the flippy miniskirts, lace-trimmed socks, and spike heels... and, of course, I just have to have the slim jeans with the ankle zippers and those single ponytails on the side of my head... I don't give a flying whoop if I look radically different from everyone else... that's the game plan! :) With the resurgence of 80's-influenced fashion, though, I'll admit it's nice to kind of be a part of things...

Would you believe, at one point well into the 21st century, I still had not seen the bulk of the John Hughes stuff, like The Breakfast Club and Sixteen Candles??? *shocked silence* Thanks to the low price of DVDs nowadays, I've done some catching up... still, many of my favorite flicks are NOT from the John Hughes stable, but they are from the 80's... Valley Girl is one, then there's Beverly Hills Cop, Tron, and Star Trek IV... there's another Valley Girl movie that stands out for me... it's called...

The movie is really BAD... its only saving grace is the Valley Girls' wardrobe, which I think is cuter than that of the ladies of Valley Girl... here's a screen capture from the movie to show y'all what I mean...

Wish I had an MP3 file of "Girls In The Valley" from The Vals on-line... just have to figure out how to rig the old VCR to the PC so that I can try making that MP3...

Another 80's fave of mine was the animated series Jem... I just loved the dolls and the fashions, which seemed to draw lots of inspiration from Valley Girl styles... I often wished that I could have the truly outrageous wardrobes of Jem and the Holograms and the Misfits... of course, I'd have looked like a complete freak, but ask me if I'd have cared! I had even designed a line of cute bug-like cartoon characters and drew them wearing Jem and Misfits fashions! I never developed the cartoon characters, though... I just wanted to have some kind of connection with the outfits! :9 I'm going to try to find some drawings of the fashions and post them up... maybe even redo some of drawings of my bug characters in Jem/Misfits clothes...

What I like most about the 80's has to be the music! I do enjoy a few bits of 90's or 21st century fare, but a lot of my favorite stuff comes from the 80's... like a-ha, INXS, Duran Duran, Mr. Mister, Phil Collins... I can't think of them all, but you get the drift... some of the most fun stuff comes from the people you're least likely to remember... like Kajagoogoo, EBN-OZN, er, pardon me for a sec... *moment of silence*
