First Meeting (May 19th 2001)

These are the minutes of the first ever meeting of our set. The meting was held at the residence of Kemi Finnih in GRA Ikeja on Sunday the 19th May 2001. Attendance: Kemi Finnih, Kemi Davies, Kemisola Yusuf, Toyin KekereEkun, Salewa Alfonso, Bobe Odunsi, Laide Ogunade, Stella Duru, Soye Briggs, Toyin Oniwinde,Ayotunde Oyewole. The meeting got underway with a prayer by Stella at 4.55pm though it was scheduled to start at 2pm.

Matters Arising:

A. Officials: It was suggested and unanimously agreed that to ensure order and smooth running of he Association, it would be a good idea to nominate and elect a few officials. Thus we decided on - President/Co-ordinator; Secretary-General; Treasurer; Chief Whip; Social Secretary and Welfare Secretary. Immediately considered necessary were a President (kemi Finnih) and a Secretary-general (Salewa Alfonso) who were agreed upon by the house.

B. Memorials for the dead: Adomale Vincent- For the benefit of those who were not previously aware, she passed on in 1997, June 11 to be exact. She was then a Year 3 Archie sudent in the University of Lagos. It was proposed that some sort of scholarship be given to the best junior student of Fine arts in her name. The recipient of this award is to be chosen by the school after a competition with a theme which we would pick out. This award, of a Certificate or Plaque and Fine art materials costing an amount which we would agree on at a later date when we are sure of our strength, would be presented at an assembly or simple ceremony on June 11 every year by one of us. However due to the constraint of time this would not begin to operate this year but should by the next. ii,Ijeoma Ofoegbu and Umoh Okon: Also for the benefit of those who were ignorant of this situation, they were killed in a most tragic auto accident 2 days after Umoh's wedding at which Ije had been the Chief bridesmaid. This occurred in September of 2000. They had both been students of medicine at the University of Nigeria Nsukka though Umoh had her degree already. It was decided that a scholarship would be given to the Headgirl at that time and the best House Captain in their names respectively, criteria for choosing the House Captain to be decided at a later date.

C. It was brought to the notice of the House that a number of our mates would be getting hooked before the end of this year- Feyi Folowosele, Nike Campbell, Ronke Abiodun, Toju Omatsola, Busola Adenubi and Nneka Emenyonu.Details on each's wedding plans and the roles we could play will be communicated to all as soon as received.

D. December Reunion: An adhoc committee was set up to organise a befitting reunion for us all – Kemisola Yusuf, Laide Ogunade, Bobe Odunsi& Ayo Oyewole. Salewa and kemi F. are members by virtue of their positions.

Small points - 1, Kemi Ogunleye and Morayo Dawodu have been chosen to act as coordinators in America and England respectively based on their very enthusiastic response to the initial mail sent by Kemi F.

The next meeting will be held at the residence of Kemi Davies- 17C Ladipo Oluwole street, off Park Lane Apapa on Sunday the 24th of June 2001. 3, Please note that refreshment at consequent meetings will be on everyone so you all should bring 'a little something' to share. Any enquiries may be directed to me and I will do my best to satisfy them.

Second Meeting (May 24th 2001)

The meeting was held at 17C ladipo Oluwole street, Apapa, residence of Olukemi Davies. Attendance-Kemi Davies, Salewa Alfonso, Toju Omatsola, Morayo Dawodu, Kemisola Yusuf, Ayo Oyewole, Kemi Finnih, Toyin Kekere-Eun, Kemi Lewis and Toyin Oniwinde. We received apologies from Simisola Sanni, Sola Kotun, Funmi Adeniyi, Sindaba Poloma, Tolu Akamoh, Bodunrin Oyedele and Busola Adenubi. The meeting began at 4.25p.m. with a prayer by Morayo Dawodu.

MATTERS ARISING

A. Exco- as there are only 3 members of the Executive Committee presently, it was suggested and accepted that the other posts of Social Secretary, Welfare Secretary and Treasurer be filled. Thus Toyin Kekere-Ekun was nominated and elected as Treasure while Kemi Lewis is to take up the position of Social Secretary. It was brought to our knowledge that Sola Kotun has expressed interest in the position of Welfare Sec. but as she was not at the meeting it was decided that the extent of the responsibilities of the holder of that position be communicated to her and then she could make up her mind.

B. Re-Memorials- The monies for the remembrance events decided on at the last meeting were determined as follows; Adomale Vincent- N5000 to cover the cost of Art materials to be given to the winner as well as the certficate; Umoh Okon and Ijeoma Ofoegbu- N2500 to be given as cash prize to the recipient of the award. Note that Kemisola Yusuf has found an art shop where these could be found pending a visit at the necessary time.

C. Website- As there is a lot of information required for this, we decided that a team of people is necessary to do all the gathering. The information includes history, pix, data on people and more. Kemisola will let us know exactly what the scope of the info is by the next meeting.

D. Dues- Toyin Kekere-Ekun is to open an account for the Association when we can afford it. Quarterly dues of N1500 for each member was agreed upon. This sum is to be paid per force , bringing the total dues, yearly,to N6000. Let's all make this our bit for charity as it is from this source that all  our memorals, charity works and others will be funded. Note that there will be a separate levy for the December Reunion. These Dues are payable from the next meeting for the Quarter of July to September.

E., December reunion-It was decided that the December Reunion would be in two stages. The first stage would be the normal Sunday meeting which would however be comprised of a larger group as we are hoping that the members in the States and the UK will be around. This particular meet will be held on 16th December at the residence of Kemi Davies. The second stage will be a party proper as in a shindig! It will be open to all and sundry which means that each member will be allowed to bring a brother husband boyfriend and/or all of the above, subject to their buying tickets forthe event. This party will be held in the evening of Saturday 22nd December. As lots of planning is involved, the Dec. Re committee will be having a meeting on th 8th July at AyoOyewole's place- Block 8 Flat 3 Alimosho Way, DOlphin Estate Ikoyi. All members of the Dec.Re. Comm. should pls take note.

F. Morayo's Info- A meeting of the London branch of the Association was scheduled to hold on 9th June. This proved impossible as the members save Buky Thomas and Tolu Sangodele failed to show up. Morayo, Buky and Tolu however had a discussion and came up with a few brilliant ideas, one of which is that the Welfare Sec. of all the Branches and the main body in Nigeria should take note of all deaths, birthdays and weddings so that cards can be dispatched to those concerned and wedding presents sent to the brides. These wedding presents are to be engraved with an insignia, for posterity's sake bearing the Association's name. This was unanimously agreed upon.

SMALL POINTS

1. Buky Thomas is to assume the position of Treasurer for the UK branch.
2. All messages of a personal nature should be personalized and sent only to the person concerned. PLs avoid sending messages which are not meant to be public news to all those in your Address Book.
3. Wedding gist- Toju Omatsola's colours are pink and grey/silver and this is for the wedding on 8th December2001. Their will be dark pink lace for the traditional on1st of December . This is however to be held in Warri unlike her wedding which is slated for Lagos. Nike Campbell's hats are in baby blue and darker blue and cost N5000. Any one interested should contact Salewa Alfonso or send word to Morayo Dawodu or Kemi Ogunleye depending on where you are by the end of July. Her wedding is on 29th December2001. Feyi Folowosele's wedding is also on 29th Dec. and has her aso-oke in peri blue( for the engagement). All those interested are to notify Kemisola Yusuf or as above . Funmi Soyinka's wedding is in November and her hats are pink. The cost will be made known soon. NEXT MEETING is scheduled to hold on the 29th August. Venue to be made known ASAP.
