   Roving around with RV....

Roving around physically is not quite possible for RV so she used the
most possible means of getting info from 69ers-- via phone and email.
Someday when RV retires, she hopes to travel around the globe to have a
one on one talkies with the Class of 69. That is let's say in uumphh
years and that is granting RV does not have arthritis yet and can travel
without problems.

Heard back from Nancy Avila-Nalundasan after her return from a two-week
Lucena vacation. She met with Charlie Alejandrino, Boy Abcede, Sig
Atienza, Dave Villabroza, Ellen Dator, Germie Villamor and Alice
Nicodemus-Hipolito. Nancy took fancy of Charlie's tummy and to her
delight and Charlie's consent, Nancy patted his tummy. "Buslog pa din si
Boy Abcede," Nancy fondly commented on Boy (this is Nancy's word of
endearment which she uses only to the closest of acquaintance). "You
know I complained that I found it hard to get up the high jeepney ramps
dahil para akong nasisilipan unless I'm wearing pants. Aba sabi ba naman
ni Boy eh sa edad natin wala nang magkakainteres na silipan ka". Nancy
being Nancy laughed so hard. Hindi rin pikon, ano?

Got an email from Alice Nicodemus-H. Alice and Nancy Avila planned to
meet at Shoe Mart since Nancy didn't have enough time to go to Alice's
house.  After going around several times without seeing Alice (or they
probably didn't know that they already bumped but didn't recognize each
other), Nancy sat on the bench and waited. It was a riot between the two
when they finally recognized each other. RV can just imagine Nancy and
Alice hugging and screaming with delight!
Alice also met Mil Reyes who attended her class reunion. RV learned from
Alice that Cesar Reyes was also on vacation although he came a little
later than Mil.

RV can't rest comfortably until she dialed her friend, Ed Forbes, the
current president of Class '69. RV wants to know something about the
cooperative. Ed sounded tired when RV got him on the phone. Know why? He
just returned from an almost pa-morningan party with Class '69 at
Charlie Alejandrino's headquarters! I was so glad to hear that  Mey
Sangalang was at that party! Go Mey!  Johram Hernandez, Sig Atienza, Boy
Abcede (RV is beginning to think that these four guys are party animals
of class '69-ha, ha), Ester Devela, Ernesto Mata, Uncle Dave Villabroza
(another party guy lately) and Cesar and Mil Reyes were there. There
must have been other 69ers in attendance that Ed failed to mention and
it must have been such a party that it lasted till wee hours in the
morning!! Reminds me of the past 30th reunion. The week before, 69ers
had another party at Guisguis, this time with Jaime Salameda, a
balikbayan from Florida!

RV almost forgot to discuss the Cooperative because of the too many
69ers' parties. Anyway Ed said that the 69ers' Cooperative is up and
going. He is proud to say that they have quite a number of members
already but he couldn't give me an exact figure. It's Esther Devela who
handles the Cooperative's finances and records, he said. The purpose of
the Cooperative is to help the needy members of our batch through small
loans at a very low interest. Profits from the Cooperative will be used
for class' 69 purposes and functions. There is a 100 pesos, one time
membership fee and for up to 5,000 pesos to invest. Classmates abroad
are invited to join the Cooperative through our president Ed Forbes.

Heard from Bal Yujuico of Class 68 about the Las Vegas reunion on July
7, 8 and 9! It sounds such a huge gathering with familiar names such as
Naning Valdeabella and wife Josie Resuma, Esme Palomar, Noemi Hernandez,
and Mitz Atienza in the list of attendees. Cesar and Mil Reyes will also
be at this reunion. Top on the agenda is the QPHS General Reunion in
2002. Should there be any 69ers interested in attending and knowing the
details of the event, please let anyone in the web team know through our
yahoo account. RV is sorry that she will not be able to attend the reunion.

And of course Class 69's mini reunion is on at JJ's place on 12 July 00.
Mil and Cesar Reyes will be at JJ's and for those of us who haven't seen
them, this is your chance to reunite with our Aussie friends. Please get in touch
with JJ (qphs69ers@yahoo.com) if you are planning to attend the get together.

Uncle Dave Villabroza called RV. He is back in the US. from a three months
vacation in the Philippines. Guess what? He is already planning to go back
to PI as soon as he hears of any plane fare promotion. "Talagang napakasaya.
Tatlong buwan ako sa Lucena pero hindi ako nainip kahit minsan.  Palagi
akong kasama ng mga former students ko and I'm glad that they find time to
see me. I was very surprised and happy that Alex Garin came to visit me when
he heard that I was around. Palagi akong kabarkada ni Boy Abcede since we
live next to each other. Whenever Charlie Alejandrino had an invitation to a
gathering, he always invited me to come with him. Of course Boy and Sig
Atienza were with us, too. I was half drunk when I left Lucena for the US. I
can't help shedding tears of joy in being with my students and now my
friends and then sadness because I had to leave. I would like to extend my
sincerest thank you to Boy Abcede, Charlie Alejandrino, Johram Hernandez and
Sig Atienza for making my vacation a very memorable one and to all my former
students from other years who invited me to join them in their reunion".
These were the words of Uncle Dave and RV listened and promised she would
convey his message through the 69ers' web site. Uncle Dave, welcome back!!!!

Learned that our web site Design Master, Ray Argosino got recently
promoted to Business Systems Analyst at ARAMCO. Congratulations Ray and
more power to you!!

RV is desperate that she can't find any information on the whereabouts
of Tomas Llorin and Federico Daleon. Would you agree with RV that our
motto for the 35th Reunion should be "BRING A CLASSMATE TO OUR 35TH PROM
NIGHT"? Each one of us, please locate a friend or a classmate who has
been missing for a long time and take him/her to the prom. Reunion 2004
plans are endless...we just have to start early.

Lastly, RV would like our classmates to know that the Web Team will be
on vacation for the months of July and August. There will be no web site
updates during the summer except to greet our birthday celebrants....And
we'll see you in September...When summer is gone...Have a good time but
remember...We will be back.....

  My prom date????

Now that my daughters and son had their prom nights I thought of my own
Junior-Senior's prom. My son started scouting for the May prom date in
January. I thought how hard it was to get a suitable partner. My
daughters agonized when this or that boy asked them and they didn't want
to go with him but wanted HIM instead. But what if HE didn't ask? Should
I ask HIM instead? These were the questions, moans and groans that I
heard from my children.

What about my Senior's Prom? What happened that night? Did anyone ask me
to be his partner? I don't remember anyone asking me at all! And I don't
remember worrying about not having a prom date either! I recollected the
events of that very special night to every Senior's life. I was a member
of the traditional Cotillon dance. Peddy was my partner in the Cotillion.
Did that mean Peddy was my prom partner? But then I don't remember
dancing with him at all after the Cotillion. It was Johram, who was my
escort in the Lakambini competition, that I danced with the whole night.
Johram might have resented the fact that he got stuck with me, but hey I
wasn't aware that he was my hostage. I also remember being surprised
when Peddy showed up in my house with a jeepney waiting to take us to
the Senior's Prom. He didn't tell me he would pick me up. My big brother
was ready to drive me to Quezon High when Peddy came. Of course I went
with Peddy. So was he my prom date? But then he didn't take me home
after the prom! My big brother with his barkada (who later became my
husband) took me home.

I had a grand night...I remember the waltzes...the flowing gowns...the
warm night ...the scent of perfume...the smile on everyone's face...but
I can't remember who or if I had a prom date. I missed the joy of being
asked to the prom, although I was there. I missed the thrill of saying
goodnight to my partner after the prom, although I said goodnight to
that person who took me home and married me eight years after.

What about you my dear classmates? Who was your prom date?

I REMEMBER.....

Gifts and mementos from friends bring back memories of the past. I have
a vintage 'lambanog' in a Chivas Regal bottle in my kitchen. It was a
token from Boy Abcede given to me through Mil Reyes. Boy and I had a
chance meeting at the BLTB station on my way to Manila. Boy is an
engineer and he was on his way to a site project somewhere up north. I
remember the talk we had 'bout some 'bastards sonofugan' whose arrogance
and egos happened to catch our attention all throughout our junior and
senior high school days. The conversation wasn't easy because at times,
we seemed like strangers to each other. It was probably because we
haven't seen each other for a long time. In the end, however, we had
some laughs and we parted ways in good spirit.
Some years ago, days before I left PI, I dropped by at Ed Forbes'  Law
Office for some notaries. Attended by his secretary, I waited in his
modest 'bupete'. There, framed on the wall of his office, were written
the word "Attorney At Law" underneath his name. A smile began to appear
involuntarily, while I stare at the frame. He finally showed up and with
few amenities, went directly attend to business at hand. I remember the
long silence. Although no word was spoken, the silence was deafening. I
left after paying the fee to his secretary who neatly wrote me a
receipt. That was the last time I saw my classmate- Euclides Forbes,
Atty.-at-Law.
I encountered JJ in front of the public market several years back. He
had not too long ago joined the Navy and I had a small restaurant then.
He was walking with Sig Atienza (I think!). We exchanged pleasantries
after which JJ gave me a quarter. "A souvenir", he said. I took it in
good faith. And look what happened!!
I remember losing Johram Hernandez's watch while playing basketball in
the school ground. It was after the last subject of the day, around sun
dusk. I remember Johram handing me his watch on the sideline. I was not
included in the starters and I remember there were other spectators,
too. I got so engrossed while the game progressed that I totally forgot
where I put the watch. I got my chance to play and when the game was
over I realized that Johram's watch was missing. We looked for his watch
but didn't find it. I know he's mad at me for what happened. But, if it
will console him to know, I bought him a Rolex and he could have it
anytime! JJ is my witness.

" I REMEMBER OUR SENIOR'S NIGHT OR SENIOR'S  PROM. I WAS A CANDIDATE FOR MR.
SENIOR AND I BECAME A RUNNER UP OPPOSITE HENRY TESALONA AND ALEX GARIN.
ALEX WAS VOTED MR . SENIOR THAT NIGHT. IT WAS AN HONOR TO BECOME A RUNNER UP AND IT IS MY PLEASURE TO SHARE OUR PROM MEMORY WITH OUR CLASSMATES".

Here's one of Johnny's (JJ) favorites...funny but true. Read it slow and visualize the humor.

PHILOSOPHY OF LIFE

Life is an endless struggle, full of frustrations and challenges,
but eventually you find a hair stylist you like.

The real art of conversation is not only to say the right thing in the right
place, but also to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

Time may be a great healer but it’s also a lousy beautician.

Brain cells come and go but fat cells live forever.

Life not only begins at forty, it begins to show.

You don’t stop laughing because you grow old;
you grow old because you stop laughing.

It is bad to suppress laughter; it goes back down and spreads to your hips.

Age is important only if you’re cheese and wine.

The only time a woman wishes that she were a year older is when she is
expecting a baby.

Inside some of us is a thin person struggling to get out, but he/she can
usually be sedated with a few pieces of chocolate cake.
