Tahre sat on his cot, Pouring over his notebook “grapes, grapes..” He barely looked up as someone walked in. "Tahre, you need to go to see H'kat, he's looking for you." Tahre's gaze snapped up "How long has it been, I've only been gone a candlemark!" the boy looked at him "H'kat says it's been three. He's sharding mad!" Tahre dropped his box of paperclips, and they scattered all over the floor. "Three candlemarks!!" He closed his notebook and tossed it onto his bed. He didn't need to anger H'kat, since the bronzerider had picked on mainly him ever since Szerin impressed. "All right Evarnat. Just so you keep up on your lessons, too. I don't need you not knowing what to do if H'kat hurts me."

Tahre sprinted out of the room, and ran over to where H'kat was waiting with his bronze dragon. “I am sorry H'kat, I got involved--" the bronzerider snarled at him. "You're always too involved with something, boy! You're turning into that wretched Szerin!" Tahre blinked at him "You mean Sz'rin, right H'kat?" H'kat's eyes flared and Tahre realized that he had made a mistake in correcting the bronzerider. He closed his mouth and stood his ground, waiting for what he knew would come. And it did come. H'kat's backhand sent Tahre flying across the Weyr.

Tahre landed hard, but got up to his feet quickly. "H'kat, I warned you if you hit me again, you weren't going to like what happened." Tahre reached into his cloak and pulled out a dagger, the blade's sharpened edges shining in the fading sunlight. As he raised his arm to throw the dagger, he suddenly felt his arm gripped tightly, and the dagger fall to the ground. Tahre whirled to face whoever would dare keep him from his goal like that, and his eyes met... The Weyrleader. He lowered his eyes quickly in deference, and said "Weyrleader N'kan...I.." The Weyrleader put his hand on Tahre's shoulder, and said softly "I saw everything, Tahre, I was saving you from killing my rider. I know your aim." Then he said louder, "Tahre, I cannot believe this behavior out of you!" he looks over at H'kat and says "H'kat, I'm sending this one off to work off his aggression. You'll not have to worry about him much more." He takes Tahre by the arm, and 'drags' him off towards his room.

Once they had reached the inner corridors of the weyr, the Weyrleader let go of Tahre and smoothed his shirt. Tahre looked up at him wide-eyed. "You're not really sending me away, are you Weyrleader? I've never done anything.. until today..." The Weyrleader's eyes lit up as they reached Tahre and Evarnat's room, where Evarnat was waiting with another rider--a rider that Tahre didn't know. The rider stood up and looked at Weyrleader N'kan. Weyrleader N'kan said to him "Go ahead, I've'nt said a word." Tahre and Evarnat are both looking confused now. The rider spoke up. "Tahre, my name is J'rin. I ride blue Amitath, from Ryslen Weyr. I have been watching you lately, your studious habits, and your ambition. I saw the way you held your ground against that rider. I was impressed, and so was Amitath. Pack your things, son, you've been Searched. You're going to Ryslen Weyr." Tahre looked at the Weyrleader who nodded. "Start packing, Tahre, but don't forget to study for your journeyman's exam!" he grins. Tahre'd forgotten the Weyrleader had been a Vintner Apprentice before impressing, but because of his dragon, never passed the journeyman's exams. Tahre smiled and said, "I will, sir!" And as the two men left, Tahre plopped down on his bed, and looked at Evarnat, who was dumbfounded. All the other boy could say was "Now I have to find a new roommate!!"
