Oh sweet illusions of song
That tempt me everywhere
In the lonely fields, and the throng
Of the crowded thoroughfare!
I approach and ye vanish away,
I grasp you, and ye are gone;
But ever by night and by day,
the melody soundeth on.
As the weary traveller sees
the desert or prairie vast,
Blue lakes, overhung by trees
That a pleasant shadow cast;
Fair towns with turrets high
And shining roofs of gold
That vanish as he draws nigh,
Like the mists together rolled-
So I wander and wander along,
And forever before me gleams
The shining city of song,
In the beautiful land of dreams.
But when I would enter the gate
Of that golden atmosphere,
It is gone, And I wonder and wait....
For the vision to reappear.
-----Henry Wadsworth Longfellow-----
Ok, I have some other information to share with you folks today,
A little history of Morgan Le Fay.......
Here is the "science" behind her first....
A superior mirage is one called a "Fata Morgana". It seems to be a castle or a city floating on the sea. This type of mirage is one that can only occur where there are alternating layers of hot and cold air near the top of the water.
This creates a very strange image of a distant object that is actually a combo of several images of the same object.
The most famous Fata Morgana's appear in the Straits of Messina, between Italy and Sicily. They have also been seen in the Great Lakes and can sometimes occur over ice in Alaska and at the poles.
Other names for Morgan Le Fay are:
Morgaine, Modron, Morigan, Morgause,Morgan lee fee, Fata Morgana.
Her titles were:
The Orcades Queen
The Rheged Queen
Princess/Priestess/Queen of Avalon
Brief History:
And she is also said to be the daughter of Duke Gorlois of Cornwall. Her mother is Igraine, and according to the matters of England, she was also Arthur's half sister. She fights with Arthur so much because Arthur's father, Uther, killed her father in a fight over their mother. She is always conspiring against him, but in her youth, she seduced him to have the child Mordred who will destroy Arthur. Other stories state that her other name is not Morgause, because Morgause is another woman all together and that Morgan Le Fay is NOT the mother of Mordred.
She has also been known as the Queen of the Isle of Apples, with
nine sisters. She could also change shapes and fly with wings.
Some say that she is married to the Lot of Orcades. Her children were: Agravaine, Gwalchmai and Medraut, and it is commonly known in the Bradshaw literary terms that Medraut is the son of Arthur and that Gwalchmai is not the son of Lot as well, maybe not even Arthurs.
Another story states that she was the wife of King Uriens and the mother of Ywain or Yvain.
In Irish Mythical stories Fata Morgana is possibly the same as their goddess Morrigan.
