Healing Arthritis the Natural
Way, by Luke Bucci, Ph.D Paperback--236 pages; List price
$14.99; Summit Pub Group; ISBN: 156530277X This is one of the the most
helpful books I've found for dealing with my own arthritis. In addition to
being a succinct, gifted writer, Bucci is a working biochemist and
researcher. This book contains, among other things, the most informed,
thorough, and intelligent discussion of the new "wonder supplements,"
glucosamine and chondroitin sulfates, that I have found so far. If you're
considering these supplements, but want to know more about them before you
try them, this book's for you. |

The Arthritis Helpbook, by Kate
Lorig, R.N. and James Fries, M.D. Paperback--318 pages; List price
$14.00; Perseus Press; ISBN: 0201409631 The subtitle of this extremely
useful book is "A Tested Self-Management Program for Coping With Arthritis
and Fibromyalgia," and that sums it up pretty well. The primary author is
the Director of the Arthritis Self-Management Patient Education Project at
the Stanford University Arthritis Center, and the book is based on the
highly successful program developed there. It contains sections on pain
management, problem solving, diet and nutrition, coping strategies, and a
compendium of useful information about standard arthritis drugs.

The New Arthritis
Breakthrough, by Henry Scammell Hardcover--340 pages; List
price $22.95; M Evans & Co; ISBN: 0871318431 If I could, I would
buy every newly diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis patient a copy of this
book. The antibiotic treatment outlined here is based on the research of
the late Thomas McPherson Brown, M.D., of Johns Hopkins and a multitude of
subsequent medical studies showing the efficacy of minocycline and other
tetracyclines in stopping or improving R.A. Read it and lend it to your
physician. If you're one of the many people who responds to this safe,
inexpensive treatment, R.A. may become an artifact of your past.
