Kyani's Weyr | ||||||||||||||||||||||
Hi, my name is Kyani. I've just been Searched for Istabitha's Weyr! It's a fine place, and I hope that we'll fit in, but we've both also been asked to become wing riders if we Impress, at the Protectorate that Mama Tani belongs to. We? Well, me and my bother Thanadaeco. He's a good kid, but I came first, you know? **winks** I'm always into the mines and stone work which goes into a Weyr, I like looking at the cutting drills and when they have access to the machinery that the Ancients did... wow! I'd like to build things like that, but I don't know anyone who can show me how! Not even the Master miner at our home Hold could really show me how the Ancients did it, so I guess I'm out of luck. I've heard about something deep in the Southern continent, though, I can't think of its name but I think it means a lot to the world. Maybe if I Impress I'll head there and check it out? What could be so important that Harpers keep it hushed up? I love listening to the Harpers tales, but I like tinkering with things more. I know I've heard stories about amazing things before, but I can never get ahold of the right Harper to tell me more! I wonder if it's just luck, or what? I hope that my luck changes, and I Impress. If I don't, I don't think I'll be all sad and gloomy like some girls I've met, who go to the sands and don't get even a Green to ride. It's almost impossible to get a dragon in a mine, anyway, right? But with their help, we could lift huge things, move big stones, and transport important items all around the world. So maybe I ought to start thinking about what kind of Dragon would suit me best? Maybe a small one... Maybe... Nah. There aren't any Other kinds of dragons, are there? Ha ha, there I go... Mama says that any dragon is the most important thing that could ever happen to a girl, or a boy like my brother. Our other Foster brothers and sisters (and some of our flesh and blood siblings too) are over here, maybe I'll ask them once they've Impressed! Go ahead and read Than's page, because it's got the best little Search Story about us! I'm no harper, but he can tell a story better than me anyway. |

Thanadaeco rushed through the weyr and shook Kyani's shoulder. "Come quick! They're hatching!" he said. Excited, he was almost panicked with it. "But ... the dragons haven't even started their song yet. How do you --" Then they started up. Both siblings rushed into the sands, through the hot sun and past all the gasping onlookers. They stood uneasily on the sands, hoping that they were going to impress. The first to hatch was a bronze, going to a handsome Harper! "That is so wonderful," Kyani said quietly to her brother. "Look at them, both of them so bronze it hurts!" Than laughed and then they went back to watching. There were two blues, a lighter and a darker one, impressing two boys. Then, four eggs produced two greens and another two blues! The greens impressed, and then the blues appeared to confer with one another. Then... Than moved out of the way. Kyani looked down to the sands, as he did so, but had no time to react! For there was a stocky blue running right for her! He launched into her arms, and they fell backwards onto the warm sands together! I will help you! I know I can do it! Kyani! I love you! But we must do it together! I am Yrainth, and I can help you! Now get me some food and oh, scratch me right there! And then we will go and see these stones you love so much! I love them too, I will do hard work for you, you know. Come on and show me! "You can help me with my work you know, by asking me how. Not ordering ME to do things, Yrainth!" Kyani laughed, gasping from under the strong blue. "Look at you," she whispered. "You will be able to help me, won't you! You'll help lift big stones into the air and put them where we need them to go! Oh, this is wonderful!" Kyani led the blue away, to be fed and yes, to be scratched lovingly all over! |
