THE RESEARCH TEAM
This is a grass roots operation. Going by the call name Bonanza, our research team is a group comprised of captains, naturalists and other concerned individuals from within Maui's whale watching community.
All participants donate their time and services free of charge, and many follow the whale's migration to Alaska during the summer months to work in various capacities in and around South East Alaska.
 |
The team is led by Rachel Cartwright. Originally from the north of England, Rachel studied ecology at University and spent five years in the Bahamas before coming to Maui to study whales. Rachel recently completed her Master's in Conservation Biology and during the summer months works as a naturalist with Princess Cruises in Alaska.
|
Captain Terry Mangold is the co-investigator on the project and the lead captain and whilst Rachel looks after the science Terence keeps everything ship shape! Terry also works in Alaska in the summer, leading tours through Kenai Fjords National Park.
