Endangered species???

I've always thought that classical guitarists do not live within 10 square miles of each other. I have never personally played with nor studied with another classical guitarist since the day I took up classical guitar playing. I have met people who claimed to play classical guitar and have let me down when I witnessed their performance. Who would have thought that the very person I work with in Firemans Fund is himself a classical guitarist? Willem Cilliers works for IBM and I am his Firemans Fund counterpart in our current project. We had been working for over a month when we both discovered that we have a common passion in the classical guitar. It was quite a dramatic discovery as we noticed and showed each other our "freakishly" long right hand nails (and short nails on the other hand - pun intended). We chatted endlessly about the classical guitar literature and for once, I wasn't disappointed. Since then we have been lugging our guitars to work every other Fridays to share our experiences and learn from each other. I have to admit that I have learned a lot from him about playing music instead of just playing notes from sheet music. Willem's sage advice have helped me refine my technique and encouraged me to reflect on my approach to studying music.

Here we are playing at one of the vacant offices in Firemans Fund.
