Kamax was an actual character in "Reavers of the Blood Sea". He was a member of the esteemed House of Orilg, and basically "worked the door". He is also known to have sparred with Aryx "Dragoneye" regularily. The Minotaur Isles Calendar...translation? created by? Months: January (Dracohalo), February (Ruboferum), March (Fluctuosus), April (Undumercor), May (Honoruspugnax), June (Clareochalybs), July (Prieliumsalax), August (Ardeocaelum), September (Geralous), October (Mareira), November (Securis) and December (Algorsalbulum). Days of the week: Sunday (Solus), Monday (Voya), Tuesday (Napol), Wednesday (Cretae), Thursday (Istos), Friday (Knos), and Saturday (Egaron). This calendar was created by me. Why are Minotaurs great sailors and stuff in Dragonlance? Well as Greek Myth goes...King Minos of Crete owned a great white bull which he refused to present to Poseidon God of the Sea as a gift/sacrifice. Poseidon then "cursed" Minos' wife and made her infatuated with the great bull. She disguised herself as a cow to get close to the bull, and joined with it. She gave birth to a half man half bull being; head of a bull body of a man. Which King Minos entrapped in a Labyrinth constructed by Daedulus. Minos nearly conquerored Athens some time before and as a tribute he demanded 7 girls and 7 boys, which he set loose in the Labyrinth for the Minotaur (named Asterius). A young Athenean named Theseus, Prince of Athens and son of Poseidon voluntarily entered the Labyrinth to slay the Minotaur and did, ending Minos' terrible ways. So the Minotaur has close ties with the sea due to its parentage which was "all started" by Poseidon God of the Sea. What other Myths are some beings derived from? Minotaur, Centaurs, Satyrs, Sirines, Unicorns, Mer Folk, Giants, Pegasi, and Griffons are from Greek Myth. Dwarves, Trolls, Elves and Giants are from Norse Myth. Dragons are in many myths, the most common being Oriental Myth. Do Minotaurs have hooves or feet?, and which way do their knees bend? Well it all depends on which draonlance cover you wish to believe in. "Kaz the Minotaur" shows Kaz in a greek mythical style, with feet and humanoid knees. "The Land of the Minotaurs" shows hooves and humanoid knees. The cover of "Reavers of the Blood Sea", displays Aryx with hooves and un humanoid knees; bending inward. For me,the new D&D3e Minotaur is the way I see it; human feet just don't cut it. Kazelati Minotaurs and Blood Sea Minotaur having different lifestyles? Here's a theory, since all info is somewhat derieved from a previous source. I think Blood Sea Minotaurs manifest a Roman civilzation having strong troops, excellent navy, lusting for control over all, relying on force, confident peoples. While Kazelati Minotaurs are more like Greeks in that they have an above excellent navy, are enlightened peoples yet still impressive combat-wise, deal in magic so they branch out educationally like greek scholars. To me this similarity jumps out. Mithas is derived from what? Probably the cult of priests that existed in ancient Greece called the Mithiras, who worshipped a bull type god. Some of those heraldric pictures that top every page have weird names, why? Well they are beasts of heraldry symbolizing certain traits. They are used family coats of arms and portray the family as having or being of a demeanor. Most are based off Greek Myth, and are just combinations of various creatures. Alphyn - like a tiger, but bigger and furrier, with long ears and tongue. Antelope - not a regular one; has tyger's head, tusks, jagged horns, antelope's body and lion's tail (Henry V's badge). Centaur - half horse-half man of Greek Myth. Griffin - half eagle half lion; spelling usually changes: Griffon, Griffin, Gryphon, Griphon. Symbolizes justice and treasure. Originated in Greece and Crete. Panther - with fire coming out of its nose and ears (badge of Henry IV and VI). Dragons were said to fear the Panther. Pegasus - winged horse of Greek Myth. Symbolizes contemplation, fame, eloquence. Knights Templar used this in their heraldric images. Pelican - I used this on the Ogres page because it seemed fitting the mother Pelican (Takhsis) turned her back on the Ogres after feeding them, moving on to new children (Humans). Salamander - an "ordinary lizard", but could walk through fire unharmed, said to be a fire elemental. Tyger - body of a wolf, lions head, tail, mane, and pointed snout. A europeans version of a real tiger. Yale - size of a horse, with a boar's tusks, goats horns, mane, and cloven hooves. Phoenix - a bird which rises from ashes to live again. |
