Character Name: Janz Axam
Gender: Male
Age: 19
Birthplace: Shienar
Current Whereabouts: Camelyn
Position/Profession: Soldier
Physical Description: Standing about 6' tall, Janz has very few remarkable features. He does not appear overly strong, nor weak. His arms are well muscled, but his chest shows little evidence of this. He has fairly short black hair, cleanly shaven. The only feature about him worthy of note is his eyes, which are deep brown and convey a wide range of emotions, although mostly they are cold as steel. His mouth rarely smiles, but is capable of smiling warmly to match his eyes on occasion.
Personality: Appearing to most who meet him aloof, cold and hard, appearances can be deceptive. He is all of these these things most of the time and to most people, but is capable of the fiercest kind of loyalty to any that would let him take them as friends. He believes in a code of conduct as strict (although not as convoluted) as any Aiel. He would put his life before that of any woman (unless she was a darkfriend) and never raise a hand against them (even if they were a darkfriend). He uses course language, but moderates it if there is any lady or senior ranking officer around. He will always respect people until they prove themselves worthy of anything else, and will usually respect senior ranking officers even then. He would never surrender to any enemy he considered unjust, and never fight a man he considered to be just. Inside, he tries to block of any emotion or feelings and, for the most part, succeeds. Losing his only love has left him this way, and he now believes that to entrust one's heart is madness, lest the same happen again.
Possessions: His possessions are limited. He carries his family long sword. It has a silvery blade and a plain white cross hilt which contains the family coat of arms. There is a Heron standing on the blade, although a fine piece of white linen covers it until Janz considers himself worthy of the Heron. It was originally thought to be power wrought, but Janz asked a passing Aes Sedai a short time after he set out and it was not. It is still Janz' most important possession, and he carries it at his waist. He also has a simple oak walking staff (6'3") which he can also use as a quarterstaff, although not as proficiently as his sword. He carries his clothes (relatively few) in a simple bag over his shoulder. Also, a simple dagger carried in his belt, another down his simple leather boots, a simple leather belt (on which the sword is hung) and a gold signet ring, with a basically stylised J on it, and a figure from the family crest.
Major Skill: Swordsmanship
Minor Skill: Martial Combat
Extra: Taught as a warrior since as soon as he could walk (as is customary in the Borderlands), he is a proficient fighter. He is also in possession of a sharp mind, capable of making well thought out decisions. When he was 14 he met a girl from another warrior family and, although he was never free with his emotions, he fell in love with her and she with him. They were married when they were 16, and lived together for almost three years on a farm near to both their families. After this time, Janz said goodbye to his wife (Sariash) and travelled to Fal Dara to be part of the party defending Tarwin's Gap. When he arrived, he was assigned, not to Tarwin's Gap, but to escort a small party, one Aes Sedai, her warder, three young men, and two women to the edge of the Blight, and to let them go with a blessing. This he did, although he arrived at Tarwin's Gap with only enough time to see the great victory given under the light by, it appeared, the Creator himself. He celebrated with his fellows in Fal Dara for under a week before the keep itself was attacked. He did his part defending it, but decided it was time to return home. This he did, with a few other soldiers from the same region. When he reached his home, he found it razed to the ground. There was nobody left, and no bodies to be found. Shocked witless, he journeyed to Fal Moran, knowing that would be where his family would have gone. When he got there, his parents met him and told the story. Trollocs (on their way to Fal Dara) had attacked, a great many of them had been killed, but eventually they had overrun the farm. Janz' parents and a few men and women had escaped to Fal Moran. Sariash was not among them. Driven nearly mad by grief, Janz left Fal Moran and ventured to the Blight. He patrolled the border by himself, fighting in some places where he thought he could survive, and everywhere he hoped he couldn't. One encounter left him nearly dead, until found by a party from Shol Arbela found him and took him back for healing. When he had been healed, he realised that he couldn't avenge anybody by himself, so he set of to find the Dragon Reborn, a man he has heard great things of, who he hopes will give him the opportunity to assist him in striking a great blow against the shadow and all their ilk. He has taken time to reach Caemlyn, as he has stopped in many places to help people be believed to be in need of help. He has killed many men, but no women, and has no qualms about killing men if they need killing.
