A Fairy Visit

Autumn pressed her face against the glass as she looked out at the city covered in a blanket of rain. She sighed. "The fairies will never come now," she thought as she remembered how very hard she had wished for the fairies to come today. All last night she had sat out on the porch drawing fairies, and when she was done with her drawing she wrote, "Please visit me" in her childish writing on the bottom and had thrown it out into the wind, trusting it to take it to them.

Silly, perhaps, but a 7 year old does not use her mind to find the logic in things, only to carry out the plan her heart tells her is right.

And only now, as she sat by her window and pressed her small, pale hands against the glass, did she think of how silly it really was to think that faeries (who have so very many important things to do) would drop everything just to visit some little girl somewhere far far away. And the more Autumn thought about it, the more silly it seemed, and so she began to softly cry.

She looked at her reflection in the window and thought that she looked like a faerie herself, with her curly blond hair in a braid and her bangs bringing out the green of her eyes. And as she watched, she began to doubt if it really was her.

She knew that if you looked into a mirror it showed you what you looked like, but she didn't think that you would see yourself if you looked at a window. After all, weren't windows for looking out of? Suddenly an idea came to her, just like that, that maybe it was really a faerie who had gotten her message and decided to visit her.

"Hello," Autumn said, and she thought she heard the faerie say hello back. "Thank you so for coming to visit," she told the faerie. The faerie smiled. "My name is Autumn," Autumn said. "What's yours?"
"Arcaydia," the faerie answered.

Or perhaps it was just the little girl's imagination. Perpaps there was no faerie, perhaps it was just her reflection in the window. But whenever it was raining and Autumn couldn't go out and play and so felt lonely she would go to the window and Arcaydia would be waiting there.
