  Family: Rosaceae

  Origin: Native of Japan


Hardiness: Hardy below 0 degrees; best with some winter chill
Growth: Slow to medium growth rate to 2-3 feet
Form: Mounding or arching form to 3-4 feet wide
Leaves: Narrow oval; 2-3 inches; toothed; deciduous; red tints
Flowers: Dark rose flowers on umbel in summer
Exposure: Sun or light shade
Water: Average water; twice a month in summer
Soil: Prefers well drained, organic, acid soil
Fertilizer: Acid food and iron in spring and summer
Prune: Cut oldest canes to the ground in winter
Problems: Aphids

Easy to grow, compact and colorful, Burmalda Spirea has several other slightly larger varieties with different colored leaves.
