The Red-headed Parrot Finch has now been in aviculture for many years and is well established in North America. Prices vary but typically a pair will retail for about $130 US with prices being a little lower in Canada. "Sea-green" and pied mutations are available. The practice of developing mutations is to say the least controversial and will not be discussed in any length on this site except to recognize its existence.
The Red-headed Parrot Finch is a very active bird consistent with the other species of this genus. They enjoy bathing very much and will seldom ignore an occasion to be in the water as often as it is freshly replaced.
Red-headed Parrot Finches enjoy to eat and will consume practically any food that is given them. They particularly relish chopped egg. I make sure that it is available to them at least every other day and supply them with romaine lettuce on alternating days.
