Noise from jets bombards people around airports.

New Bedford Airport's main runway points straight at Acushnet and Dartmouth. So the biggest jets will travel across these towns.
Noise (75-85 decibels) from jets overflying to and from the airport is more than 10,000 times the intensity of normal background sound. Rumblings could continue for hours during the day, and wake sleepers at all hours of the night.

Such noise:

Lowers private property values.
Degrades work performance and the performance of students in schools.
Produces stress which can result in problems like alcoholism and child abuse.
Spoils nature recreation areas.
Repulses tourists, professional workers, and, retirees, risking their contributions to the regional economy.

Jet planes also are a major source of air pollution and toxic mists.
