All bearded dragons are squat-bodied lizards with moderately long, strong tails, and a distinct series of enlarged, keeled, scales across their throats which when frightened or displaying they gape and expand the scales into a prickly "beard" which is what gave it its name. This looks simular to when a frill-dragon expands its throat, but the bearded dragons is not as large.
Bearded dragons are extremely general in their dietary preferences. Wild lizards consume about 20%of their food as plant matter and the rest make up of insects, other invertebrates and the odd small vertebrates such as mice or smaller lizards.
As you can see bearded dragons are prickly looking, but this does
not interfer in your handling of it.They are generally quite tame and
so they make good pets, and with the success of breeding in this country of
them they are also getting easier to get and less exspensive.
