LIFE HISTORY OF Danaus genutia intermedia (Common Tiger)

The caterpillar can move about quite quickly and during the last instar, tends to wander away from the host plant to look for a suitable location to pupate.

On locating a suitable place to start the next stage of its life cycle, the caterpillar curls up and stops moving altogether. It stays in this position for about half a day, before the amazing transformation occurs where it becomes a pupa.
