LIFE HISTORY OF Danaus genutia intermedia (Common Tiger)
| The barrel-shaped pupa is
a pale lustrous green with black and metallic gold and silver markings.
Against a green leaf, it is very well camouflaged and appears almost like
a fruit or appendage of a plant.
It remains in the pupa stage for about a week. |
|
| On the final day before the adult is ready to emerge, the wing patterns of the butterfly can be clearly seen through the now transparent shell of the pupa. Note the very clear orange, black and white wing markings of the Common Tiger which is visible in the photograph. | ![]() |
