The Vegetarian Youth Network is an informal, grassroots, non-professional organization run
entirely by, and for, teenagers who support compassionate, healthy, globally-aware,
vegetarian/vegan living. The Network is committed to providing support and encouragement to
vegetarian youth through programs that emphasize communication (i.e. mail, phone, and e-mail).
Tovah, VYN's founder, says "Personally, I've seen that the best support I've gotten has come from
people my own age. Out of this experience and those of other people I've talked to, we are
creating programs which bring us together with others who share similar ideas." The Vegetarian
Youth Network (V.Y.N.) hopes to strengthen the global community by increasing knowledge,
action and concern about the ethical, health, environmental and social problems that are inherent in
a society based on animal-cruelty, (meat industry, factory-farming, slaughter, animal-testing,
hunting, dissection, pet abuse, the fur industry, etc.) especially among young people. The Network
is entirely peer-led which makes it possible for us to offer programs and services that directly cater
to the needs and desires of the people we serve.
The Vegetarian Youth Network has been in existence for a short time yet we have already been
mentioned in a variety of publications including reACT, Scholastic News, Vegetarian Times,
Veggie Life, Natural Health, Pineapple Press and many local newspapers around the country! And
let us know if you read about us anywhere else. (They always mention us in newspapers without
telling us!)
