In 1868 the Mibu HQ starts to get messy; some members are
proven to be turncoating. They leave the Shinsengumi, cancel their allegiance to Shogun Tokugawa Yoshinobu, and join
the assassins that work for restoring Emperor Meiji to power.
Saito is sent to the deserters' camp to spy on them.

Hijikata
Hijikata decides to hunt the ex-members that support the Emperor. Shinsengumi is bound to defend the shogunate.

Ito knows his time has come; he knows that look in their eyes.
For the gods' sake they used to hunt like this as one.

Saito doesn't blink though he's the one who tricked Ito into this

"In the name of the Shogun, we condemn you to die!"

Their swordsplay is more or less equal

Yoshimura
Saito finishes Ito off in one strike

Nagakura
Okita is seriously ill, yet he insists on coming with them to hunt tonight. Saito and Hijikata know he'll die of TB soon
