11:33p - A taper analogy
Digi-Silence - def by yours truly. (don't even bother looking in Webster for this one):
"A phenomanon that occurs every so often in recording with Digital Audio Tape (DAT). The recording machine (most prevalently the sony portable models TCD D3, TCD D8, and TCD D100 or M1) misloads the tape. By all outward appearances, when < record > is pushed, recording functions normally. The reality, however, is that the actual magnetic media itself is not aligned properly with the heads and thus no information is written to the media. This fact is only discovered after rewinding and pushing < play >, wherein the taper discovers "digital silence" or "digi-silence". Veteran DAT tapers are aware of this flaw in their equipment and always do a test recording of a minute or so to ensure proper loading."

My D100 is ailing. (I KNEW that it was ailing. In retrospect, I should have brought my slightly less ailing D8) When i pushed < rewind > to do this check, the tape unloaded itself DURING MY TEST! Left with no other option, I reloaded the tape, skipped the test, and just went on Hope.

Hope failed. I lost what would have been a really nice recording of Sister Hazel tonight. The only really good band I've seen here in Oki, and...this...

Frustration, dissapointment, anger, disbelief, and second guessing all know no limits in these situations...

and then a face flashed in my mind.

What a perfect analogy tonight's debaccle is for something else that's happened to me recently.
