The Rampey Photos

The Rampey Photos

Posted January 30, 2000, by Bryan Rampey

This is a collection of the old black-and-white Rampey family photos I have scanned from copies made with my 35mm Nikon FE and various close-up attachments. They are here for the enjoyment and enrichment of the Rampey family. Some of them are very old and may not have been seen by some of the family members. Now they are here online, safe from housefires, floods, coffee stains, and other natural disasters. If you have any suggestions as to when a particular picture was originally made, or where, or who might have taken the picture, let me know via email. Also, please correct any misspelling of names or any other error of fact. I'll be glad to add the information when I update the page. If you would like for me to include a link to your web page from here, just let me know. There are already some links at the bottom of this page.

Be patient; it may take a while for some of the pictures to appear. While waiting, you can at least scroll down the page and read the text that goes with each one. If you would like to save any of the pictures to your hard drive, hold the pointer over the picture, click once with the right mouse button, then click once on Save picture as... when the menu pops up. Then you can view the picture anytime you like without going online. Or, I could email you a larger copy of the picture.

This is Henry Silas Rampey, father of Lethadeous Ferrill Rampey, grandfather of Helen, Earl, Franklin, and Edwin Rampey, greatgrandfather of Randy, Sherree, Hellen, Marvin, Glenn, Ronnie, Bryan, Kyle, and Boyce. Henry was the son of Levi McDuffie Rampey (1854-1887), the grandson of John "Jackson" Rampey (1811-1891), greatgrandson of Peter Rempe (Rampy) (1764-1843), who was the son of Johann Nicholas Rempe (1729-1801), the first known Rampey in America, having arrived in Charles Town (now Charleston) in 1764. Johann's father was Johann Andreas Rempe, born circa 1708 in Germany, and his grandfather was Johann Paul Rempe, born circa 1687.

Harriett Christopher Barrett, mother of Lily Alo Barrett Rampey, grandmother of Helen, Earl, Franklin, and Edwin Rampey, greatgrandmother of Randy, Sherree, Hellen, Marvin, Glenn, Ronnie, Bryan, Kyle, and Boyce.

Lethadeous Ferrill Rampey (May 10, 1907--May 16, 1949) and Lily Alo Barrett Rampey (Nov. 14, 1907--June 4, 1996), parents of Helen Alice (Hill) (born Feb. 23, 1926), Earl Leon (born Nov. 5, 1930), Franklin DeWitt (born May 13, 1934), and Edwin Marvin (born April 6, 1937).

Another photo of Ferrill and Alo, along with Gladous Barrett Nolan and Jack Nolan, Helen Rampey (Hill), and Myrtle Norris. The children are Edwin Rampey, and Kathryn and Thelma Long.

Below, Earl, Franklin, and Edwin Rampey.

Edwin gets some space all by himself in these two shots.

Here is Helen Rampey Hill with husband James and sons Glenn and Ronnie.

Two important studies have been made of the genealogy of the Rampey (or Rampy) family: The Rampey Family of Pickens County, S.C.: Quietly Building America, by Charles H. Busha, Ph.D., and Joseph Donald Rampey, Liberty, S.C., 1988; and Palatine Roots: Origins of the Rampy Family in America, by Gordon A. Rampy, 1988, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 88-61207.

One last shot of Henry Rampey, at right. With him are his wife Emma (born Smith), their son James, and James' wife Evelyn. Henry and Emma had six sons: John, Paul, Ferrill, Joe, James, and Harold; and three daughters: Maggie Rampey Stancil, Desiree Rampey Spearman, and Mary Rampey Jewell.
