The Sky's Fall
An old fox, professing to be the wisest of all animals, once showed up at a forest. For days all the animals trooped to his den, seeking the spark of wisdom he could impart.
Finally, as his sensational arrival became a commonplace occurrence, the fox became almost unnoticed. This obscurity caused him endless heart-break. Finally he decided to seek greener pastures but how could he go off without getting even with the animals who had ignored him?
So off he trooped to the mousedeers' habitat.
" Oh deer friends," he said to the mousedeers who gathered around him , " I am helping the lions to form a special group to study and determine the exact rate of the sky's fall. Only then will we know how many days are left before the sky caves in on us, killing us. Would any of you like to volunteer to help?"
None of the mousedeers volunteered to help but this was indeed news. The sky was falling and nobody had told them.
Then off he trooped to the lions' den.
" Oh ferocious friends," he told the lions," But do you know that the sky is falling? At this moment the mousedeers are forming a group to study its exact rate of fall!"
As days passed the expected happened. The lions felt the mousedeer had been selfish in not alerting them to the danger and the mousedeer felt that the lions had not lived up to their expectations of friendship by ignoring them with danger being so close at hand.
And the fox trotted off happily from the forest with a smile on its face .
