Ok - Dawn of the Dead.

I really like this movie. Awesome stuff…

Actually, not really that awesome but I dig my zombie/post apocalyptic nightmare movies so this hit the spot nicely.

Good points and bad points:

Good points -

Zombies.

Well made. Generally pretty slick.

Strange but appropriate use of music. The Johnny Cash song over the opening credits is gold.

Good cast (for the most part).

Classic story (thanks Romero).

The fact that they never explain why everyone if zombified. I think it makes the concept easier to believe if they don't have some lame @rse explanation behind it. "Oh my God, the Mitachlorians are turning them into zombies!"

Bad points -

Too many characters. The original got away with only 4 characters… This one must have a dozen or so - you end up not caring for a lot of them.

Fast zombies. I prefer the slow ones overpowering due to sheer volume as opposed to fast crazy ones (plus the slow ones just make more sense). A bit too similar to 28 Days Later - but that's the only real similarity.

Redundant characters. Something that really p!sses me off in movies is when x amount of time is poured into a character or subplot and then something happens to said character or subplot resulting in the movie wasting a lot of time explaining something that ultimately was a waste of time.

Zombie baby. Just stupid.

Actually, now that I think about it, it's very similar to 28 Days Later which in turn is very similar to Romero's zombie movies. Hmmm… I'll give it a RATE! anyway because I had fun watching it. I'll give the original a RATE! while I'm at it. The music and acting are terrible and the effects are pretty tame by today's standards but for some reason those things don't stop it from being a good film.
